Actually, Star Marine will be more like a "standard" multiplayer FPS w/ lobbies and re-spawns. The semi-permadeath mechanic will be apart of the MMO-PU and not Star Marine (which is what this article is about).
@nl_skipper: It's because some people, who have an excess amount of money and are gamers, are sick and tired of all the crap that gets published now-a-days. Sure there are gems that stick out every year but for the most part games haven't changed is quite a long time. These people, myself included, feel that they will get a ton of enjoyment from playing this game because it will break soo many conventions. If this game succeeds, it may force the industry to change, to see that creativity and innovation isn't always and adverse risk.
You may think that 20k is a lot of money to throw at a video game and that may be true through your view point but for us, we will get every ounce of enjoyment by playing this game and being apart of the PU and that isn't even the half of it. We well also enjoy how this game is created, and for many, that insight justifies the amount we put into this game.
@fhtrhgt: It's because people need to subjectively convince themselves that the narrative they have invested in was correct one. They show this by chest pumping by comparing x feature with y game or vise versa.
