@tanerb: MMO devs and publishers are a greedy bunch. Instead of trying something new they make the same game over and over again and slap a new franchise flavor on top of it. So sad this genre is dying because of incompetence.
@RSM-HQ: I think your argument only proves mine. In DS1 if you are wearing heavy armor you simply don't roll because your character falls limp on his back. People used a shield and forfeit rolling, as far as I know, unless you are full of magic items to improve encumbrance on NG+ but that is not game breaking because magic is part of the world.
I don't think katanas are slow, the big ones are slower than the smaller ones but I think they did a good job translating them into the game. It's more of a technical barrier to simulate katanas than design choice IMHO.
My point is, it's easy to nitpick things that are different from real life to disprove my point. It's harder to find games that translate that feel like DS does (did). Maybe only those medieval simulation type of games like Chivalry (never played).
@groowagon: I personally hate this new "fluid" combat. And that enemy juggling with a greatsword made me cringe.
It looks like those over the top action games where physics don't matter like Devil May Cry or MGR Revengeance in contrast to how real weapons and armor felt in DS.
Well, I guess it appeals to some otherwise they wouldn't do it..
@devantex: I hope you guys are right and I'm wrong but I don't think they would use some unfinished mechanics to advertise their game.
I'm not complaining about the game getting easier. What I'm bugged at is that armor and weapons always felt so real in DS1... If you chose a big sword you had to gain momentum and it felt heavy. Now DS3 looks like any other action game with crazy physics.
That's it folks! Dark Souls has oficially entered the "streamline" (dumb down) realm. The fully armored warrior rolls like he is wearing spandex.
I remember beating the first game wearing a mask of the father (lower encumbrance) and the lower piece of a robe so I could use a breastplate and black knight's gauntlets and still roll fast.
Now you can put Havel's armor on and join Dancing with the Stars. But hey, anything for a flashier game.
