It might be good, but I still don't have a good idea as to what they'll be having you do in the game. If it's just walking around, discovering animals and caves, then it'll get incredibly boring very quickly. If there's some crafting component, like maybe you can build a better ship or create a base somewhere, then it could be good; we haven't seen any sort of ship progression so far--there being only one ship model we've seen used by the character. The online aspect will also severely limit the game's potential. Minecraft and games like Rust thrive because of the communal aspects. When your discovery/crafting? game requires you to essentially solo it, it's not as likely to have as much staying power.

It didn't bring down the metacritic score whatsoever. It was at 86 for a while, then it went up to 87, and it's been at 87 since, with this particular review not altering it whatsoever. If they had given it a 2/10 or something, that might have affected it quite a bit more, but they gave it an 68, which isn't really that low. I don't agree with the score, but at the same time, it's not like it's a trollish score. The review itself is pretty poor though; he spends almost a fourth of the review talking about Dragon Commander, and the rest is bitching about how he thinks the jokes land flat. He doesn't go into any detail whatsoever, so it's somewhat hard for me to believe that he played it fully.

Mmm, it may actually mean that the game can't sustain 60fps locked.

Let's wait and see.

That's exactly what I thought. The only reason I could see throwing a 30fps cap on the game would be if the framerates fluctuate heavily, instead of a stable 60fps. Not being able to hit a stable 60fps on a PS3 port with some improved textures would be pretty fucking pathetic, and would be a guarantee that their whole 60fps Uncharted promise was a load of horseshit.

btw, the developer saying "we've worked hard to remove drops" and "the experience SHOULD be a locked 60fps" isn't the same as saying that the game is locked at 60fps and rarely ever experiences fps drops. Learn 2 PR talk people!

I could see it being relatively challenging so long as you rely on checkpoints instead of quicksaves. It's certainly far harder than Dishonored was. The AI is decent on the hardest difficulty, and complete garbage on the lower difficulty settings. It has a pretty decent length--far more than most big-name games, and will probably last you 20+ hours, especially if you're playing on hard. It's a semi-linear game; you have to reach one location, but there are different ways to get there. However, there's less room for improvisation than in the older Thief games. There's stuff to upgrade, and the HUD can be completely removed (at least on PC). Nothing new or innovative really. It's a decent stealth game with some poor design choices (too many context sensitive buttons instead of dedicated buttons--not having dedicated lean buttons was a huge oversight imo).

I don't understand why people are arguing so much over poly count. High poly counts are borderline useless imo in the age of tessellation.

pc master spreadsheet race got themself a game finally

lol, my cat does the same thing when she's going after birds. Little thing doesn't realize she isn't gonna catch shit if she keeps shaking her ass like crazy before she pounces.

As for the GTA Mantle thing, it's a pretty clear sign that it's gonna be a very good port. GTA4's biggest problem, from what I've heard, is its poor CPU utilization. With Mantle, CPU bottlenecks will all but disappear.

@lostrib I personally don't think Nvidia sucks, but there are some things I've noticed are better on the AMD side--color balance being one. With the default driver settings you get from both companies, games on Nvidia GPUs look far more washed out. This is something that can be changed though, but you have to do it manually, whereas AMD's default settings give a nice color balance. Secondly, at least from my experience, my AMD GPU has had far less driver issues outside of games--Nvidia seems to release drivers without enough adequate testing, which results in numerous display driver crashes.

If you don't want to play early access games, then don't buy them. I am sick of hearing people bitch about some early access game being buggy. Yeah, of course it's fucking buggy! You bought an alpha! They labelled it an alpha. They didn't hide it, so quit bitching. You SHOULD be bitching when a developer releases a full game that broken as hell like BF4; if they had marketed BF4 under early access or something, I wouldn't have had an issue.

Not really surprised

I am, this is From we're talking about. Considering how hard of a time they have with PC porting and even getting games to run smoothly on PS3/360, I'm surprised they out of all companies went for this (if so).

Only on the first Dark Souls. Dark Souls 2 has a magnificent PC port. As for the re-release: great for next gen owners! This will pretty much be the sole game on the next-gen systems that you can actually invest a considerable amount of time into, and frankly, 60fps Dark Souls is just so, so, soooo much better. Would have liked to have seen it for only $40 though. They know the console crowd is desperate for anything.

all these requests to legitimise the criticism against ue4 - and nobody answers the call.

all i could really think they'd have to say was that it's a middleware in it's infancy, which can make things challenging especially if modifying the codebase of an engine in development (see 2k and bioshock's tech team).

and also, that there aren't any proven implementations of ue4 (eg ue4 powered games)

but really, that's expected with a virgin middleware.

Dying Light. If they have a challenge, it will likely be the result of limited UE4 documentation and developer assistance in Japanese. I don't know how well Epic's Japanese team has improved over the years, but I would assume it's now markedly better.
