I don't really have a problem with companies doing it as I am not stupid enough to fall for it, but yeah, it's a quick cash grab. The current situation is really odd though. Within the last two or three years, we've been seeing many companies release absolutely amazing PC ports with far higher quality assets than what's been possible on the 360/PS3, so it's only natural that those companies would want to repackage the PC versions of those games and resell them to the console crowd, who have never experienced those games at a greater fidelity. The costs of porting them are negligible considering the consoles use PC architecture; combine that with how terrible the next-gen libraries are, as well as the total lack of backwards compatibility, and you get a recipe for easy money.

Civilization Beyond Earth, Mario Kart 8, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and Super Smash Bros. could all potentially give it a run for its money. I think the media will just buy into the hype and give it GotY like they do with so many other games though.
I'm curious to see what Gamespot's Game of the Year will be. They've made some very curious (and in my mind, commendable) decisions for GotY the last five years or so, so it will be interesting to see what game they decide to go with this year.
You're a mod now too!? God damn, everyone's becoming a mod. Anyway, they've already said some of the potential nominees: Divinity Original Sin, Wolfenstein, Shovel Knight, Mario Kart 8, and a few others. Link
Oh wow, haha, I got my picks right then :p
I really need to play Divinity, everyone's raving about it, it sounds so good.
It really is. Even if you don't particularly enjoy a whimsical, comedic RPG world that has you helping cats like Unsinkable Sam get with the love of his life or paying a prostitute to chat it up with a lonely bridge troll, you should still enjoy the incredibly deep, tactical turn-based combat--I'd honestly go so far as to say it's the best turn-based RPG combat I've ever encountered, with only non-RPG games like XCOM and Advance Wars coming close to its depths.

Look how much more powerful the 780 was over the ps360 but that didn't stop consoles from breaking sales records last year.
Actually, it's only the PS4 that did well. Every other console/handheld has been doing quite poorly compared to previous generations.

So what happened? This Nick Sibetta wrote an article for Gamecrate, a website apparently owned and operated by Newegg.com; well Newegg shared this particular article which rants and raves about the PCMR meme, which in turn causes PC gamers (ie the people that buy anything from Newegg) to complain on Newegg's facebook page. Facebook post gets deleted, and the site pulls the article. lulz
Anyway....who wants to bet this is uninspiredcup!? I mean, come on!! ;)
* A game that is NOT an MMO or a fighter.
With the latest revelation regarding Nintendo's ponderings on Mario Maker, I've been wondering if the Japanese studios have even a rudimentary understanding about online capabilities of games.
Can you name one Japanese AAA game (from this or last gen) with strong multiplayer portion that is not an MMO (or a fighting game for that matter) that has been released in the West?
That seems like a ridiculous and arbitrary restriction, especially considering the Japanese aren't into mobas/RTSs and FPS/TPSs, which compromise much of the competitive multiplayer space.
The problem is, TC is essentially asking why aren't there a bunch of exclusive, big-budget third person shooters/action games on PC. It's a stupid question. What kind of idiot company making that type of game is gonna not go multi-plat? Like I said, it's a stupid question. The only logical response is Divinity OS.

Your little 8hr movie games can suck a bag of dicks. I'd rather play my 80hr badass, muthafuckin isometric cRPG.
