...It's not about valuing the platform it's about manpower. I don't know how you can't understand that not every developer can work on three platforms at the same time. Rockstar Leeds, what have they done...PSP ports of GTA games. You want them to rush out the game for release ?It would be a bigger mess than GTA IV.GeneralShowzer

Yes it is about "valuing" the platform, I honestly cannot see how you are arguing it is a manpower issue when we are talking about Rockstar here. Rockstar is probably one of the biggest developers out there yet they cannot do what a hell of a lot of other developers can ? There is no excuse for a developer like Rockstar to neglect the PC platform yet they do it with nearly every release. They clearly do not see the PC as a profitable platform and if so that is their problem. But don't expect me to get the pom poms out and jump up and down just because they are releasing a late port on the PC.

As for Rockstar Leeds competence obviously Rockstar has faith in them since they have handed the porting duties over to that studio. There is no reason why the PC version of LA Noire could not have been developed in tandem with the console versions. Instead we get a 6 - 12 month later rushed port and PC gamers are expected to jump for joy over this news ?

[QUOTE="charmingcharlie"] What if the PC version has lots of bugs? Do you still want a buggy game to be released just because console version is being released? The witcher 2 was released on PC first and it's being released on 360 later this year. Don't you think the console gamers feel like second class customer in this case?harshv82

Just because they are releasing the PC version of LA Noire later does not mean it won't have lots of bugs in it. After all they released GTA 4 later on the PC and that had more bugs in it than the console versions. As for "The Witcher 2" coming to the Xbox 360 then yes they are being treated like second class customers and if I was an Xbox 360 owner then CD Projekt Red wouldn't be seeing a penny of my money.

Understand that not every development team is made out of several hundred people, so they can efficiently work on a game on all three platforms. Team Bondi had no experience on PC, and were busy actually releasing the game. GeneralShowzer

I understand perfectly that Team Bondi are not even doing the PC version it is actually Rockstar Leeds doing the porting. Now last time I checked Rockstar isn't a "mom and pop" operation and there is no reason why they could not have assigned Rockstar Leeds to port the PC version in time for it to come to the PC at the same time as the consoles.

Obviously you don't feel too strongly about the PC getting a late port, but I do and it is not a practice I wish to encourage. Yes I would have quite happily bought LA Noire had it been released at the same time as the console version (Rockstar clearly has the resources for this). Since they didn't bother to do that then I will ensure I spend my money on companies that do value the PC platform.

If you don't own a console you're getting an AAA quality game you can play. Is that a problem or something?GeneralShowzer

Yes it is a problem releasing a late port of the game to the PC. Like I said I don't see why any PC gamer would accept this kind of practice. In my books release the game at the same time as the consoles or don't release it at all. Just because I am a PC gamer does not make me a second class customer which is the message Rockstar are giving out here.

And when it comes on PC, it'll likely only be half a year old.

drinkerofjuice

That is IF it comes out in Fall 2011 and I would have thought it was pretty obvious that is a pretty vague release date isn't it ? Yes if it came out Fall 2011 it would be around 6 months old but I have my doubts that it will come out in Fall 2011.

And the crowds of overjoyous people commenting on that webpage won't buy it. Mischievity

Does that include the massive crowd of "overjoyous" people that are commenting saying "but what about RDR ?" It seems to me from most of the comments on that site they are more concerned about getting RDR than they are about LA Noire.

Nor will all the people who want to buy it in this thread. Nor will all the people who love Rockstar. Just 5 people: Me, Myself, Myself in third-person, Myself from heaven and I.Mischievity

Naturally when I said 5 people I didn't expect some one would take me "literally" my apologies if you thought I literally meant it would only sell 5 copies. I was merely trying to illustrate that this game will not fair well sales wise on the PC. Obviously you are happy to get this game and that is up to you and I hope you enjoy it. However I see no reason why I should be "overjoyous" about getting nearly a year old game that has a pretty good chance of being a crappy port and will probably have a console price tag on it

Well I hate to break it to you, but frankly, I don't think Rockstar really cares :P

Mischievity

I am sure they don't but at least they will have a possible explanation as to why LA Noire sells about 5 copies on the PC.

Meh I will be skipping LA Noire and any other Rockstar products until they start releasing COMPETENT PC versions at the SAME TIME as the console version.

Actually what your buying is a one user license. It doesn't matter who that user is as long as there is only one person using it. So if i'm no longer using it someone else should be able to. fastr

Nope that isn't right either, when you buy a game you purchase a license for you to use the software. If you check the terms and conditions of the license you will find that it is "non-transferable" that is you do not have the right to transfer your right to use the license to anyone else. Only the person that bought/activated the license can use it, if you give your game to some one else that is infringing the terms of the license since you never had the right to transfer the license in the first place.

No you cannot activate Mass Effect 1 on steam, it is not a "steamworks" game. As for whether you should wait for a steam sale to buy it ? Well there is no guarantee that Steam will have Mass Effect 1 in their Summer Sale. If it is going cheap on D2D at the moment then you might as well buy it cheap from them, there is very little difference between the steam version and D2D version.

The only other thing I would say is that D2D seems to be having some technical problems at the moment and their site isn't working.
