People are angry because they can't have everything, also stupid if they think a petition will do anything, most want to save Anderson, destroy the Reapers for good without affecting the Geth, yourself (synthetic parts) and EDI/technology in general and Shepard emerging from the Citadel "like a boss", a hero.DanielDust
Whilst I won't deny SOME want that, the majority complaining about the ending have very valid complaints. Firstly the ending does not make sense I mean come on an Artificial Intelligence wipes out advanced organic life every 50,000 years to prevent them from creating an Artificial Intelligence that will wipe out Organic life  . Not to mention the whole space casper ghost kid rubbish. Then there is the fact the choices you make in all 3 games are completely ignored and you are left with just 3 choices that get presented to you by the Reaper controller and Shepard takes it all at face value. Then there is the issue of the crew members mysteriously teleporting back to the ship when they are meant to be lying dead on the ground. Then there is the what the hell scene with the Normandy fleeing the battle only to be caught in the resulting explosion.
This is just stating some of the points that people have with the crappy ending. There is a reason why over 90% are unhappy with the endings and no it isn't as clear cut as people wanting a "rainbow, sunshine and unicorn" ending. The problem with the ending is that it is a mess, does not make sense, does not take into account choices people made in the last three games and offers no closure whatsoever to Shepards story that is why the majority are complaining.
If you are really interested in why the majority are complaining about the endings then you could do worse than read this :-

It covers all the complaints people have about the ending. Just don't dismiss this as "people wanting a happy ending" that isn't the issue here.
