Is the EA PR machine going to keep churning out meaningless quotes for the next 4-5 years? It's great that the devs can express their excitement for the game's development but the game currently has absolutely nothing to show to the public, let it at least build up to something to actually feed people's excitement meaningfully rather than string people along with what are suspiciously canned statements amounting to "hey this game is great"!
The Wii U is increasingly looking like the dreamcast except the dreamcast was technically ahead of its time (with for example console internet play in the age of dialup) and the Wii U is behind. Nintendo needs to understand that the Wii took off with motion control as a new gimmick everyone wanted at the time, touch is not meant for living room consoles (why would you want to look away from your HDTV for all the action even with a few on-controller shortcuts?), that's the domain of private portable play, where the 3DS is a great console with a solid library. Old tech with a gimmick ain't going to cut it as this stage and the longer major titles delay the less interest gamers at large will have for the platform, further reducing potential returns for the system even if it picks up later on (which seems doubtful in a reasonable timespan). Nintendo's strong balance sheet (a good Japanese company characteristic) will allow it to weather the storm but it needs to rethink its digital strategy if it wants to stand any chance at staying in the game (no pun intended).
Ah, it's not Ultra SF4 that's not coming to PS4 and XOne, it's MEGA Street Fighter 4, with playable doctor light, sigma, zero and mettools (the most dangerous of the lot)!
@slavagen DNF had DLC too, provided the sales numbers cross a certain amount, there is DLC it would seem. I wonder how the economics of DLC for critically panned titles work out.
If all the competitors can do it, so can Nintendo. And quite frankly, the extremes they go to to comply with these restrictions are ludicrous: for example, buying a 3DS in one region, emigrating and having it repaired in another could lead to the loss of all purchased content on it as customer service wipes it clean for the new region (cases like these have already happened). If Nintendo wants to survive, on top of good games (which it still produces) it has to listen to customers and come up with viable content distribution policies, we live in a world where people move around the world frequently and order things online.
@galactic88 Exactly, the spinoffs helped fans tide over the announcement, HL has had very little to do that other than Black Mesa and cryptic Portal 2 references that actually add very little lore to the HL universe while seaming all mysterious.
The anticipation around HL3 has gotten completely ridiculous, no wonder with that insane cliffhanger ending of HL2:Ep 2, maybe Valve would have been better off releasing sort of a side story game in between Ep2 and 3 like what Alan Wake's American Nightmare is to Alan Wake, something that takes place after the main game, reveals just enough of the fate of the characters to bring some peace to the suspense while setting up a sequel. The sequel can take ages to come, but at least you don't feel left hanging for 6+ years.
YES! Also, the engine is used for PES? Pretty versatile tech there (or it's a Konami cost-cutting maneuver that uses what is bound to be a cutting edge engine for more than what it was meant for - which can be a good thing). Also, the thing about the legendary developers is they tend to focus on not just the tech, for most of them, their tech is already far ahead of the competition, they focus on the actual gameplay, which makes their work so worthwhile.
@TAracer 5% is way too low according to me, there are tonnes of women on game forums. But yeah, 45% is probably way too high, most women gamers I know play casual games rather than hardcore titles (although very obsessively), so I wouldn't consider that "gaming" per se. Agree with your other points though.
