And duality of thinking... Everybody reasons the way that suits him or her best :) Unfortunatly that's a given.

LJS9502_basic

One should be logical in all thinking.  I don't change my logic or values to suit the topic.  I base my conclusion on using consistent logic and thought.:)

Like I said, my conclusions could only be reached if you've seen the world through my eyes.  They aren't exactly logical, but it makes complete sense to me.  I may not be getting the entire thing across, partially because I can't really find the words for it.  I do believe in gods, but I don't believe that they actually are gods...it's kind of tricky.

What does intelligent life on other planets have to do with whether or not there is a god?  Even if there is life out there, and that life is more intelligent than us, that does not make them gods.  I'm really not sure what argument you are making.

As far as the lawsuits that you are talking about, the reason that people are against it is because it was state sponsored.  This violates the seperation of chruch in state that is inherent in our constitution.
Decessus
I specifically stated earlier that I don't believe in gods, I believe the intelligent life out there may or may not have the power to control us by means of force or otherwise.  They may be benevolent, they may have qualities unheard of on this planet (lifespan, that kind of thing)

As for the roadside memorials, not all of them were crosses.  They were trying to take down flowers and photographs and just things in general.

Like I said, just wishful thinking.

Don't be a game tester if you want to make money.  For one, the only testing jobs that pay well are QA Lead jobs and the assistants.  Everyone else is pretty much a temporary hire.  You might have to live in an apartment.  Also, be prepared to do the same thing over and over again.  The QA Lead for Oblivion would repeat things as much as 150 times a week.

[QUOTE="crucifine"][QUOTE="zh666"]well crap.. there went my post all into flames because of these stupid glitches....

the rest i had to say will be summerized like this...

Crytic Slaughter's influence was already felt in the 80's with hardcore, thrash and death metal, Possessed already influenced a slew of thrash, death and black metal bands (including Cannibal Corpse, remember they covered The Exocist on Hammer Smashed Face), Impetigo's influence was never really felt until about 8 years ago... to say Cannibal Corpse stole these guys "credits" is a bit silly and I would like to see how you can "prove" this...

zh666
It's just my subjective opinion, man, cool down a bit. I tend to see influence differently than everyone else. My whole point from that entire thread is that there are so many more bands that need to be heard that have been drowned out by the larger groups such as Cannibal Corpse, Lamb of God, At The Gates, or Opeth.

all those bands (except At the Gates) are still active, touring and will be releasing albums in the future, and there's still a ton of ATG's rip offs to keep them in the spotlight... Cannibal Corpse, At the Gates and Opeth were all original hardworking bands that deserve their legacy... Lamb of God just sounds like a Pantera clone to me, but they're a hardworking band too and deserve whatever they get for touring their asses off

it's perfectly acceptable that people like those bands today, why would this bother you? want people to check out Possessed? talk about them more, word of mouth is the only outlet these dead bands will have... why get angry that they're not popular TODAY?

Cradle of Filth is popular "black metal" but it doesn't bother me.. thats why i make threads like these

It's not that those bands are bad, or anything like that.  I have a lot of respect for At The Gates and Opeth, and to some extent Cannibal Corpse.  It's that (and I know this can't be helped) many of the people who listen to CC, ATG, Opeth, Lamb of God, etc., don't listen to a whole lot else.  I just feel like there isn't any point of listening to music if you aren't going to explore a bit.  Wishful thinking, I suppose.  None of the bands themselves bother me, it's that those fans are satiated by a handful of bands and don't even bother listening to other stuff, because it's not from a band that they like.

[QUOTE="crucifine"][QUOTE="SimpJee"][QUOTE="dragonlife29"][QUOTE="SimpJee"]Belief requires at least some form of evidence, there has been none in support of god, not even a single piece of evidence to even HINT that there is a god. This leads me to atheism because since there is no evidence, why should I even consider the possibility of there being a God or some existential being? There you go.
SimpJee
Isn't the idea of God's existence (or nonexistence) based on hints, though? Isn't the Bible just one big collection of alleged hints?

You mean to say there's no concrete proof. Right?

I don't see the Bible as being any kind of evidence whatsoever, or a hint. I see it as fiction, because the material has no base in reality. I meant just what I said, from all I've read seen or heard, I haven't seen even a mere hint of proof (concrete or otherwise) of the existence of god. This lead me to the conclusion that there isn't one. I also don't know how anyone could come to any other conclusion, which is why Agnostics confuse me heh.

I'm agnostic, because I believe in superior beings, but not gods. I don't believe in there being a perfect image of man or any ultimate truth. There will never be any ultimate truth. But, I do believe there are things out there that are superior to humans. Aliens, or even other humans. Whatever being exists in the dimension above ours. Who knows? You can prove that there isn't any evidence of God, but you can't prove to me that there aren't superior beings. We don't know enough for there to be an answer to that. Maybe when the new telescope goes up?

This is where I'm confused about Atheism. Wouldn't that mean you are an Atheist? Because you don't believe in one or a couple beings that just popped up and decided to create us, correct? Therefore you're an atheist. Also, there is no evidence of some superior being, so why believe in them until some kind of evidence shows up?

Sorry for resurrecting this one, folks. No, atheists deny anything (at least religiously) that does not have proof of existence.  I am open to possibilities.  I believe there is other intelligent life out there, (with as many planets and stars as there are, there is no denying (yet) that there could be life) and that they could be better than us.  And although this does not include all atheists, many of them want to limit the religious freedom of others.  Sometimes this is good (evangelicals) and sometimes this is cruel (there have been a series of lawsuits regarding roadside memorials in my state.  Denying someone something that is vital to their grieving process is not cool).

In addition, I've used some mind-altering substances, which have changed how I view metaphysical things like this.  My conclusions are only understandable if you've lived my life, that's really what it comes down to.  I'm too cheerful to be an atheist, anyways.

[QUOTE="crucifine"][QUOTE="zh666"][QUOTE="crucifine"][QUOTE="JeffGenocideX"]

[QUOTE="skullkrusher13"]I'm seeing a lot of Cannibal Corpse fans in this thread. I reccommend you guys check out The Faceless. zh666

LOL wow... Cannibal Corpse... best local band here in FL & Morbid Angel.

What about Death, Atheist, or Cynic? All way more influential than CC...who really has no influence, to be honest. They're also all from Florida...

can you name a single band that atleast sounds a bit like Cynic or Atheist? While Death IS one of the most influencial bands ever, but its mostly just their 80's stuff thats important... Cannibal Corpse however, was of course a later band, but they did usher in so many bands, became THE most popular Death Metal act ever, and have been imitated by a ton of (crappy) bands, more so than Death, Cynic or Atheist combined within a shorter time

Well, a lot of the tech death bands wouldn't necessarily be here if it weren't for Atheist and Cynic. As in, they were the biggest bands at the start of tech death. Cannibal Corpse wasn't the first to do what they did, although they did have a much bigger fanbase than almost any death metal act in recent history. In fact, besides seeing Suffocation have a quick bit on the History Channel, Cannibal Corpse is the only death metal band I've ever seen in public media (Ace Ventura). That was my point, really. Punk wouldn't be here without The Stooges, but everyone says it was The Ramones, catch my drift?

I'm sure punk would be here just fine without the Stooges, music is eventually going to evolve, it doesn't take a genius to think to write fast hard rocking 3 chord punk songs... the Stooges weren't the SOLE callus to create the genre.. the difference once again is there's 10,000 billion truck loads of Ramones clones, and only a handful of Stooges clones... I'm sure they're all equally influenced by each band, but the Ramones clearly had more of an impact on all the bands, like it or not...

same goes with Cannibal Corpse... while I would say Suffocation is the most influencial band ever, considering how many Suffoclones are still out there in the late 90s and today... Cynics best work was barely even death metal.. a few screams doesn't make the cut... Cynics "death metal" stuff was average, barbariac Death / Thrash.. mostly leaning on thrash... while Atheist probably influenced bands like Pestilence to go tech and maybe influenced other tech bands... did they produce any clones? not really... Death had a few clones, mostly of their early non-tech stuff, I can only think of a couple bands that sound like later Death... all three bands are obviously great, but you can't say they really as important as Cannibal Corpse can you? while CC didn't tread any new ground, they still had their pattened sound, they toured their asses off, they're on metal blade, they got music videos on mtv, they're in movies, and generally the most well known death metal band on the planet... CC probably influenced so many kids just to even buy a Death Metal album in the first place... let alone 10 billion clone bands...

There's bands more important than Cannibal Corpse, but later Death, later Cynic and Atheist are not them... you might like those bands more than Cannibal Corpse, hell I do.. but lets face reality here

It's not that they had no influence (although I'll admit I said something like that), it's that they robbed the other groups of any credit they had.  No one remembers Impetigo, Cryptic Slaughter, Possessed, etc.  Which I guess bothers me more than other people.

And to the guy who doesn't like death metal because of the singers...there are bands who don't scream.  And besides, Chester Bennington and Corey Taylor are awful singers.

Hate to break it to you, but they're only taking their story material from the books, not from other games.  It may look that way, but Conan had the fighting-the-kraken-on-the-ships before God of War or Pirates of the Caribbean, even Lord of the Rings.  The gameplay I'll admit looks to be a mix between God of War and any other brawler which allows you to pick up weapons.  I'm looking forward to it.
