@paladin1459 @cryofax @QuadThumbs The things you point out are exactly what I said might be possible. Keeping tabs on more zombie locations, AI, adjoining map locations loaded via internet. Offloading those peripheral tasks so the processor can do more of the heavy lifting (i.e. graphics rendering).

I just don't like the idea of being tethered to an outside server. I can see some advantages though.

@paladin1459 @QuadThumbs I don't want my console games dependent on the cloud so when those servers go offline my games are useless. And... I'll believe this "cloud backed" computing for the XBox One when I see it in practice. Seriously you can't offload processor intensive tasks remotely for real time deployment across the internet (i.e. graphics rendering). You might get away with some lighter tasks that can free up the XBox One for doing those tasks.

@Gamernametaken @cryofax @Nepti BTW I'm not trying to argue with you. I have no loyalty to either. Just as a hardware guy myself I'm trying to wrap my head around a scenario where one couldn't run something the other can, even if not as well.

@Gamernametaken @cryofax @Nepti I was hoping for a more direct link to back up your claim, not a huge forum discussion with lots of conjecture and subjective data.

Although I think we can safely assume you're right about MS wanting to try and seize control of your TV experience, and that the XBox is weaker for playing games (just based on the specs). That isn't a secret. What I was getting at is any sort of quote from Microsoft saying they essentially as a result of some design decision not all games will be able to play on Xbox.

Just from a logical standpoint this makes no sense. You could put any nextgen game on an Xbox 360 if you wanted to scale down the graphics enough. And the specs on the two consoles (XB1/PS4) are close enough that although it is possible some games may not look as good on the XBox, there is no scenario I can imagine, outside of some custom hardware peripheral, that would mean there is a game that couldn't run on both consoles.

There was a similar scenario this last gen, some games running better than others on the platforms, but they could both still run everything. But I'm sure there will be games that run better on one or the other. That's been true with every generation of console.

@Ravenlore_basic I have so many games there's no rush for me. I'll give them a year or two to work out the inevitable hardware and software glitches and establish a bigger library before I buy a new console.

I understand that if you install a game from disk, and the disk is not required to be in the console (ala Xbox One) they want an online check to make sure you're not pirating the game. Fair enough. And some people are cool with that and don't want to be bothered switching disks. So some people may embrace this.

My problem with it is its the ONLY option. How about letting me avoid the online check if I keep my disk in the drive and only require it if it's not? That would appease both camps. Those who don't have internet (or reliable internet) + those of us who don't want to be checked up on vs those who don't want to switch disks. There's no reason not to integrate the two DRMs so the consumer can choose.

@blue900 @cryofax I asked about the used game market. Not piracy. Those are two completely different things. But if you insist, there isn't any evidence that piracy hurts sales either. The amount is not a direct correlation to damages. As for 3rd world, it's likely those who dish out a fraction for a pirated copy never would have purchaed the retail version. They can't afford it.

Sony was by far #1 in the generation before this, and total sales for this gen are very close. There is nothing to suggest MS fans are more loyal than Sony. If anything this MS screwup with the XBox One shows that. People will jump ship if someone tries to screw them.

@pspearman @Gamernametaken @tdkmillsy You don't need a mandatory 24-hour checkin to have digital trading. They can perform authenticity checks at the time of the trade, so it's voluntary.
