Shenmue is a cult classic. A new game of that scope on current engines would cost 50-60 million easy. The kickstarter is to show the big wigs and Sony that their is demand to match its budget.

The expectations of the Sony conference are probably too high. It can't be as good as Microsoft, it HAS to be better or it will be considered a loss for them.
