3/5 Flop. This sucks!

http://triplecombo.piczo.com/post/3878/Halo+ODST+Review:+Prepare+to...Flop%3F?cr=3

1.5/5

VERDICT

Halo 3: ODST is a disappointment. The story starts off great, but can't maintain its consistency and by the end is just a let down. This started off as DLC, and it's obvious that it should have remained as such. The new co-op mode is nice, and at times the single player campaign can be thoroughly entertaining. However, the 60-dollar price tag and short story mode really bring this game down.

When Bungie announced this would be released on a disc for full price, we all expected a much longer and much more complete game. Halo 3: ODST feels like a cheap money grab and there's very little reason to buy it. It's obvious now why the Halo: Reach beta was included. This game isn't worth a purchase. If you are interested in the story, give it a rental, it won't take you more than a day to complete it.

Xbox 360 set the standard for HD gaming, harddrive and a online community like xbox live.

Cyberfairy

Oh dear, although I love xbox360 it has not done anything as influential as what nintendo and sony have done for the market. Microsoft saw a very lucrative industry and moved the goal posts without creating anything new. Increased resolution, hard drive space and online had already been done or are present in every other console. Console gaming has been redefined imo 3 times:

1. Nintendo introduces the NES despite an extremely grim looking market

2. Sony launches Ps1 with 3d hardware acceleration and optical based media despite the market leaders claiming it was not necessary

3. Nintendo launch the Wii with motion control despite the market leaders claiming it was not necessary

History has shown "who dares wins" microsoft has not done anything "redefining" but what it has done has been excellent.

A poor operating result is to be expected given the current climate.

The decrease of 18% in the gaming division appears highly comparable across the firm (electronics & film both down 17%). On that basis we can rule out that the Ps3 is the sole destroyer of the Sony empire. In actual fact there has been a monumental increase in the amount of software units moved by the Ps3 which will be very encouraging to both investors and fanboys alike.

This equal distribution of losses is and indicator of the poor performance of US dollar against the yen, the recession in Japan and the greater crisis world wide. Sony have showed a weakening in the amount of loss in the games division indicating a move towards Ps3 profitability, this could either work towards or against a Ps3 price drop depending on which way you slice it.

Of particular note to me is the reduction in Ps2 software & hardware sales. I would have expected a higher correlation of decrease in Ps2 and increase in Ps3. This is not the case indicating that the retiring Ps2 user-base are moving elsewhere (most likely wii) It will interesting to see whether this trend continues in the next earnings release with the $99 Ps2.

[QUOTE="bobbetybob"]Riight so Nintendo don't innovate at all, apart from making games the way they are today, yet MS or Sony obviously innovate, stealing ideas and releasing the same games with different graphics is a real innovation. I laugh in the face of people who say Nintendo are innovative.JLF1

Innovate doesn't mean you innovate once then rest on your laurels for 10 years. I don't see why it's too much to ask to get a new IP out of Nintendo.

Wii Fit, brain age, Disaster, Wii sports, what new IP has Sony oe MS created this gen?

Littlebigplanet, infamous, alan wake, echochrome, uncharted, resistance, gears of war, pixeljunk monsters, heavy rain, lostodyssey, blue dragon, motorstorm shall I keep going...?

Not first party.

I want the games industry to move away from this notion of being for kids. I want stories with strong narratives, deep plots and adult concepts. The industry was moving in that direction and now is being conflicted by the wii.

Arhazard

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and that is fine. However this statement is what I find wrong with many people today and am glad that Nintendo is changing that trend. This could be argued but I believe that serious stories and adult concepts heavily impact on the 'fun' factor of a game. Not that they reduce it (as fun is a relative term), but often completely change it. Some games are more fun to me, as a person, than others: take Mario Galaxy vs Metal Gear Solid. I personally believe that Mario Galaxy is hands down more fun than MGS. MGS, however, is still very entertaining because it gives a great, cinematic story with interesting characters (like a movie).

The point I am trying to make is that the industry should have both family friendly games and adult oriented titles (which it does). I don't know about you, but if every game was similar to MGS I would quit gaming.

Rockstar make games for gamers, bungie makes games for gamers, insomniac makes games for gamers that was my point. dblin

Ever played a Nintendo game? In my opinion Nintendo are one of the only gaming companies out there that seriously cares for gaming and has tried to do something about it, because they knew that the trend following last generation would not last forever. Sure, devs make great games, but you'd be a fool to state that Nintendo doesn't make games for gamers.

Yep played plenty of them. I think that nintendo fans are the most closed minded. There is this genuine feeling amongst nintendo fans that everything nintendo do is innovative. This is not a requirement, I loved galaxy but it would have been better with standard controls. I'm sorry but not all games are meant to be fun. I wish to go through all emotions in gaming. I cannot wait to get my hands on ocelot!!! I did not find sotc fun but my god it was a brilliant game, it was emotional deep and heavily moving. There is an of "games as art" that I want to see. It is my feeling that nintendo games do not aim for this. Okami is another example, it is not fun per se but it is fantastic and if you loved Zelda it is much better.
