I just looked at the image gallery for ESO, and those were some of the most generic MMO screenshots I have seen in a while. They could have been pulled from any number of free to play MMOs. This project has "fail" written all over it.
Great game. ABSOLUTELY possible to play and enjoy it for free. The worst thing about it is that I feel guilty for not paying anything for it. I hate buying currency I don't need just to support a dev for doing it right, but I always do if the game was free. EA, read the paragraph about how they are raking in the dough without forcing people to pay cash to play. Your freemiums would make more money in the long run if you stopped driving players away with your price gouging.
Anyone who actually managed to enjoy the broken, fractured AC Revelations probably already knows that they will like AC 3. It being the "ending" to the "trilogy" trumps the fact that it will be another rushed game made by 15 different development houses scattered around the globe with less and less emphasis on what made the series great. Also, Best Buy was giving away some schwag case for pre-orderers, so there was an immediate bonus for those who pre-ordered now. Personally, I think AC 3 looks comically outrageous with Connor blending in about as well as a watermelon among grapes. Every image I have seen from the cover to the screenshots here on GS has made me laugh and share them with others who have laughed just as hard. BUT, I will still be renting the game just to see how Desmond's journey ends. For those who responded to the images with anything but gales of laughter, a day one purchase is pretty much assured, so why not pre-order?
This isn't about entitlement. It is about being a decent human being. There is no excuse for racist, sexist language in a civilized discussion. BioWare and some of its employees have done some things that SHOULD anger gamers, but gamers have to keep it in perspective and respond to what is being said, not the race/gender/appearance of who is saying it.
With Sony already making its own WiiMotes and the Vita being a lot like the Wii U controller, Nintendo could go software only (and handheld for a few more years) easily and without missing a beat. But if I had to pick the one most likely to drop out, I'd go with Sony. The company is in financial trouble already and it doesn't look like the Vita is going to help the situation any time soon (if ever). Without the PS3 being the cheapest blu-ray player on the market for its first few years, sales probably would have pushed Sony out of the market already. I don't see a new must-have tech to drive the PS4 being likely in the next few years. Sony used the "It only does everything" tag, but MS is the one that is living up to it. MS didn't get into the console business to sell games. They saw that the age of PCs was going to fade and wanted to position themselves in our living rooms. They acheived that position and are aggressively expanding what a console can be used to do. They are positioned exactly where they want to be in the home entertainment industry.
The biggest gaming story of 2011 was the ongoing assault on consumer rights, with Microsoft upping the ante just a few days ago by not even allowing an opt-out clause to their extortion tactics.
