can someone please explain to me why this is one of the best selling video games? what makes it so great and how come its been essentially one big dlc for almost a decade and remains to score well with the critics but not the user?

After watching a lot of gameplay and looking at reviews online, I still don't see why people fall for this year after year. To me the game started to show its age a long time ago and this doesn't look any different outside of some more unoriginal ideas added. I wonder what it will be next year. also why is it the user reviews are always so much worse?
