First off - there aren't that many games truly tapping into the power yet. That is because either they lack the funding, or they want more profits by releasing on consoles as well.
Any time you make a game that is supposed to be able to run on a console you limit the game, unless you are willing to provide two seperate engine and two seperate experiences. And they won't. I mena look at Battlefield 3 and the tears from console gamers over 64 players + bigger maps + more destruction.
But for most multi-plats, going from SUb-HD, low rez textures, primitive lightng/shadowing, primitve texture effects, low polygon models, no (or little) AF or AA, less/dummer AI, less/no real time physics effects, low levels of detail, a ton of pop-in on the consoles to:
- 1080p or hgiher resolution
- high resolution textures and modern texture effects
- Modern lighting and shadowing like hundreds of realtime lights, HBAO, contact hardening shadows, diffused shadows, etc.
- Higher polygon models, and tessellated models on a few DX 11 games
- Full AF and either FXAA or tradistional MSAA upto 8x
- More AI running, and more intense algorythms runnign for smarter AI and better pathfinding
- More real-time physics effects running at once
- High levels of detail and little or no pop-in.
- High frame rate for smoother animations, and more responsive controls and gameplay
Not to mention:
- Possibility for a more seamless expriences since there's more RAM to work with
- Way faster loading times
- And mods, which usually take the experience to a whole other level.
The differences in most games is NOT in any way, shape or form, as you put it, "slight".
It is significant.
Most of the people saying "slight" are consoel only gamers who have only ever seen a Pc game run on youtube videos. There's a big difference from that, to having the game running on a large monitor in front of you, blazing at 60+ FPS.
You are really blowing the differences out of proportion! Lets take a random multiplat...mass effect 2! In what way is pc graphically better? Ok higher resolution and better frame rate and i guess loading times as well! But...the same lighting effects, same assets, same effects, same polygon count, same basically everything! Just looks a sharper version of the console version! The VAST majority of multiplats are hardly upgraded at all for pc....Just cause 2 and metro are the exceptions! Im a pc gamer.....games should looks much better than they currently do! But you cant say the likes of uncharted 3 lighting system is primitive when in reality its more advanced than the majortiy of pc games....as they are very few "graphic pushing" pc exclusives! Just slightly upgraded and cleaner versions of console games! And how many pc games have higher polygon models than for eg uncharted 3? Does batman pc have more polygons that batman console? Nope! And seriously, i know you havent said this, but people who think pc is like 2-3 gens over consoles reallllllyyyy need to sit down in a dark corner and have a little think! So games now look better than the ps5? Ha..Ha..Ha....yea...that must be true....! ps dont moderate this message its incredibly tame....
