Mafia 2 was so much less than it could have been and should have been, especially since the shooting was so satisfying. I just wish there was more to do in that game.
The real problem is that the line between an amazing game and one that really isn't enjoyable is much thinner than this 10 point scale would indicate. Sometimes, even just a small tweak would make a bad game great. 7.5 is not satisfying because some people will probably like it anyway, but some people know that they might hate it and have wasted $60. Everyone knows this and is now worried about which side of the fence they'll fall on. The reviews with higher scores are the people who liked it, the ones with lower scores disliked it.
Should you review a game based on how much you liked it or how much you think others will like it? Probably should think about that for later reviews.

If you rated a movie based on its previews, then Wild Wild West would be a cinematic triumph for the ages. You think that game devs give reviewers an honest look in previews? Seriously? Preview content is strictly controlled by the game companies.
And by the way, this review is an opinion. I guarantee everyone will be saying the same thing, that this game is good not great, and certainly not Blood Money great.

Read a review of it anywhere else, they all hate this game and give it around 6/10, and only give that much because of graphics and sound effects. But the game itself sucks. It's nothing like Blood Money. Go read the RockPaperShotgun or PC Gamer review of it online. Nobody likes it that much, don't trash Kevin. He actually liked it more than anybody I've seen so far.
I'm very disappointed that this game didn't follow through on the promises of the developers. They said it would be like Blood Money with the environments and denied that it would have one path, which was simply an outright lie.
Amalur is the most disappointing game I've ever played. The character movement alone made me put it down. It felt like the character was ice skating. It's weird, but a sense of weight in video game characters is really important to me, probably more than anything else at the most basic level. I wish game reviewers focused more on that kind of stuff instead of leading me to believe it was a well-made game.
Curt should have made an old school, top down isometric RPG for 1/100th the cost because that would have had a legitimate market. These games make millions on Kickstarter before they're even developed, obviously people want to buy those games.
I literally couldn't play the game after I was killed by guards at a post that I cleared no more than 20 mins earlier. I stopped playing the game permanently, then retried it and the same thing happened to me so I stopped again.
GTA has a level of polish, writing, gameplay, and presentation that no other game in any genre has managed to duplicate. Rockstar is truly, in my opinion, the best developer that there is in any genre. And the driving mechanics are unmatched in almost any game, including many racing games. Acceleration and turning feel better in that game than any other sandbox with driving.
The only game that has piqued my interest like a GTA was the preview for the first Assassin's Creed, and that turned out to be a lot more hype than substance (though still a great game). Watch Dogs looks amazing too, but I doubt it will be as good as GTA V.
