That was a joke for those of you who are familiar with either Streetlight Manifesto, Catch-22, or know of the incredible "Keasbey Nights" album from the 90's (2006 from Streetlight Manifesto). For the record, that's the name of the song.
My point is that the other night (January 24th, 2009) I went to Worcester, Massachusetts to the most incredible concert I've ever been to. The show was Tip the Van (I had never heard of them but they were pretty good and I got their CD), Streetlight Manifesto, and Reel Big Fish. I don't even know where to start! IT WAS AWESOME!
Tip the Van was fantastic. They got the crowd ready and their songs were well chosen. Their trombone player was fantastic (and very attractive :D) and I learned a lot from watching her play. She nailed high notes left and right and her solos were fantastic. The star of Tip the Van this night was the drummer. My God, he was fabulous. He beat the crap out of his traps and was on fire! It was insane. Check out their album "Something Wicked". It's pretty good.
Next up was Streetlight Manifesto, my personal favorite ska/punk band. Their frontman/vocalist/guitar player is Thomas Kalnoky, the mastermind behind Catch-22, Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (BOTAR), and Gimp. They were absolutely amazing. Their horn section was baritone and tenor saxes, trumpet, and trombone. I'm personally a trombone player and I really like Streetlight's trombone player's style and skill. He played notes so high that they were nearly as high as their trumpet player's screaming trumpet. I was in shock at the band. Kalnoky couldn't stand still when he wasn't singing and would dance around the stage and groove to his music. I highly recommend Streetlight Manifesto as a band to keep in mind and to follow; they're not so cheesy and more punky than ska.
Reel Big Fish closed the show with their usual antics (if you've ever seen them you know what they do). They played fantastically and I wish I had more time to talk about them...my internet is acting up and my keyboard's being uncooperative. Suffice to say that it was amazing and they insisted on reminding the crowd that they were in fact Reel Big Fish ("In case you forgot...which would be embarassing...for both of us..."-Aaron Barrett). They played several of their standards as well as new material from both Monkeys For Nothing and the Chimps for Free and off of their new cover album Fame, Fortune, and Fornication.
Check out these bands online...they come highly recommended.
*Edit*
I found photos and there's bootleg footage of the concert. I'll link to the photos but you'll have to search for either "Reel Big Fish Worcester" or the same with "Streetlight Manifesto". Photos are here: www.flickr.com/photos/futruebreed/collections/72157612933631639/
Let me know if I screwed it up.
