Interesting to see a possible upgrade to the Switch but I doubt I will be interested personally and I'm wondering what the point is?
My base Switch is just sat collecting dust atm and seems to have dated very fast tech-wise. I've played most of the games I wanted and the visuals when I played it docked just look really bad nowadays.
I think Nintendo have got the handheld market pretty much sewn up and their business seem centred around that but they have absolutely no chance creating a console for this gen against the likes of Sony & Microsoft.
Currently sporting an RTX 2080 & I haven't even bothered over-clocking that sucka yet and it doesn't even break a sweat on literally everything I play on warp 10.
I absolutely do not need to upgrade this card at least for a couple more years.
Hands down, the best controller I've ever used. It is a thing of beauty and incredibly comfortable to use. The haptic feedback was such a shock to use at first because the feedback and sensations it gives back to you as you're playing the game is pretty incredible.
It's definitely the new standard but if Sony have patented the tech/blueprints for it, (almost a certainty) I wonder how easy it will be to copy it due to patenting regulations etc. Not sure on that one.
A lot of this actually sounds legit to me. Certain things that were mentioned and the way the info was framed, tells me it's an actual dev, deep in the know.
I can imagine a LOT of the devs wanting to speak up about the production shi*show. I bet it's probably a hundred times worse than what is being told here.
What we need, is a Jason Schreier report on this game, much in the same way he did with Anthem. I would pay to read that expose. that's for damned sure.
This is what happens when your game is forever in development. Several console generations pass and your game doesn't seem to know what platform it's targeted for anymore.
I just feel CDPR literally threw everything at the game and the QA/technical responsibility went flying out of the window. The technical director for the game has a hell of a lot to answer for because ultimately, it's he/she who had overall responsibility for this hitting the market in a good place. That didn't happen, so something terribly wrong going on with the production pipeline there.
It's not just one thing though because you can literally level criticism at every aspect of the game. A lot of the game components seem fundamentally broken to me and what should have been a glorious gaming experience has just turned into a cautionary tale in how not to make a game. I know a lot of people who bought the game. seemingly having a great experience but I do ask is it as awesome as you thought it would be, or is it just OK or better than you expected?
This game, unfortunately, will be remembered for all the wrong reasons but there was definitely some underhanded advertising going on here. PS4 & XB1 are by far the biggest user base for the game, so CDPR knew those customers were going to get burned pretty badly on what they ended up with. The fact that versions of those games were not shown anywhere to anybody was a huge mistake by CDPR, or maybe one of their more spurious decisions because they are literally raking the cash in at the moment. The game is still selling like crazy but they stand to lose a lot if they lose the case.
One of the better things that might come out of this is some changes within the industry itself that looks at the way games are advertised and presented. There definitely needs to be some tighter regulations around this to protect the consumer.
@theduckofdeath: I skipped the PS4/XBOX1 generation altogether because I just couldn't be bothered to engage in it really. I've always had powerful PC's around the house, so seeing things maxed out was never really an issue but what I can't control, is the unfinished state of games that are released on a regular basis. Exclusives I really never cared for either because the games ended up being in development so long, I just wouldn't be held to ransom like that. On top of that, when the games did come out, I just wasn't that blown away by the end product and often times, the severity of the bugs usually overshadowed some of the good stuff that was being showcased and I just thought the overall quality of the games & the experience they gave were shocking in some cases. Cyberpunk being one of them, Games that have been in development that long really should not be displaying that kind of experience, where it's seemingly OK to sell something that's effectively broken and instilling a mindset to all the younger generation that it can be fixed later with a patch, with the game actually being playable 12 months down the line. It's just unacceptable to me. No Man's Sky is another example of that exact same mentality, with the company being praised for getting the game to where it should actually have been on launch day but 4 years after launch. It's just unbelievable.
I'm just not that excited about games anymore. Part of me seems to think I've seen it all and nothing really impresses me these days. Cyberpunk just illustrated everything that is wrong with AAA development and I've just got wise to it all. It was never on my radar anyway but I've been following the good & bad press it's been receiving. I kinda use that as my barometer but occasionally, a game comes along that intrigues me and I drop a few coins on Steam to purchase but only after it's been hanging around my wishlist until I get notification that it's on sale or something.
I rarely buy a game full price or on day one, that is just not a good idea these days. I am interested in the new consoles. Not sure when I'll pick on up though, or which one for that matter, so I'll just see how the land lies in 12 months time. My PC with it's RTX 2080 I think will cut it for a couple of years, so I have it all covered on the PC front but we'll see how Sony & Microsoft move forward. I'm favouring PS5 atm, mainly because Sony will probably launch another VR headset in the not too distant future, which is a really interesting area. Overall though, I'm not that excited by anything on the games side right now. I have a handful of games on Steam that I thought I'd be interested in only to find that I get bored really quickly with them and I have far too many other interests that occupy me anyway.
2021? I think we'll see a few sleeper hits pop up but the big releases I'm not bothered about because I can't see any of the titles listed in this article doing anything I haven't seen or played before in one form or another.
