@nickpeck36: Release dates give accountability. You just can't have an open ended release schedule and bounce development along forever. There has to be a concrete cut off point so that the marketing machine can get into gear etc. There are tons of other dependencies attached to a release date. Investors getting a return is just a small part of the whole process. What you don't want to see is a Star Citizen scenario where the game seemingly, will never be released after a ridiculously long development period.
@YukoAsho: That is true and they did do a legendary turnaround on No Mans Sky. So much so, I'm actually considering buying it for the VR version, which looks pretty cool. I think Cyberpunk is a completely different beast though. Much more complex and technically, much more going on and a lot more systems to fix. I think the next gen versions will be supported but it all depends on what the fallout from this will be. Are the staff still around or have a lot of people been burned out by the project, left or simply moved on. I imagine a lot of CDPR staff would be pleased to see the back of it. We shall see.
@Barighm: So, you're thinking CDPR will survive this? My analogy really just illustrates what I think will happen to the company, so...yes, really.
Do I think the PS4 & XBOX1 platforms will be improved? Probably not in a meaningful way that will make a difference to the people who have already purchased. The ones who will benefit are the people who pick this up 6-12 months from now if (& it's a big if) CDPR actually throw the resources at the game to fix all the broken stuff. For those who picked up day 1 will be a tough crowd to pull back in, since the damage has already been done. A lot have probably refunded in time, so that lessens the pain to some extent but for most, it's just a bad purchase.
As for DLC, you're having a laugh aren't you? That isn't going to save this dumpster fire. Who is going to work on free DLC exactly? The company just won't have the time to play around with that, unless a boat load of content that was pulled (and there would have been) may get thrown back in but if it's as broken as the rest of the game, then you can forget that.
Cyberpunk is fast becoming the Titanic of game development and releases. I'm giving this one a very wide berth. Sorry for people who day 1'd this glorious mess.
I keep hearing that the game needed more time. It's been in development for 8 years ffs. That is an unbelievably long time in game development terms. Not many games have the luxury of that kind of time or the resources this game had thrown at it. Pretty shocking really when you think about it but there was definitely a lot of complacency around what this game was delivering. CDPR must have known there would be a huge $hitstorm about this straight after release and the reputation they had built up over all the years has basically been thrown away. This reminds me very much of Anthem's release. The sad part is,even if they manage to turn the game around, I doubt we will ever see CDPR take on a project of this scope ever again. Those days are long gone.
Well, this is just turning into a colossal $hitshow for CDPR at this point in time and I will be amazed if they return from this in tact. Probably not. How the hell did the PS4/XBOX1 versions pass QA validation anyway?
