The Wii U will launch in two flavors: one with 8 GB internal flash storage and one with 32 GB. For those who need more, they can attach any USB hard drive to store their game downloads and data. Now Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U will support hard drives of up to 3 TB in capacity.

Wii U hard driveThe news was revealed by Nintendos Reggie Fils-Aime in a message to fans. And if you find external hard drives to large and bulky for your Wii U, you can use SD and SDHC memory cards with up to 32 GB of storage. The Wii U has a built-in SD card slot behind the front cover, right next to two USB 2.0 ports.

Nintendo seems to have the right approach when it comes to storage. Including a large hard drive or a lot of flash memory would increase the price of the consoles. Instead, Nintendo offers consumers to add any hard drive or memory card to their Wii U and easily expand storage.

Since memory is so cheap these days (you can get a 16 GB flash drive for under $10 bucks), its hard to see any Wii U owner running out of storage any time soon. Still, not everyone is convinced Nintendos approach will work.

Keyboard and Mouse wasn't designed for games.

Windows wasn't designed for games

No standardized hardware = million of different configurations only to realize these hardwares weren't meant for gaming but more important work or educational tasks instead.

Computers were made to create such things as video games, yes but they weren't meant to play them. The current control scheme of it indicates this KB + M, you serious? That is an incredibly unergonomically way to game.

Consoles which were designed for gaming allow the PC to be used for gaming, without help from outside sources the PC in a traditional sense was not meant to game.

PCs are for studying, work, school, and other important tasks.

Consoles are designed for fun during leisure time, split screen, extremely vocal online community with an excllent setup (XBL >> Steam), their standard controllers, and standardized hardware.

Every new consoles dictates the future of PC, never has the PC dictated the future for consoles.

What PC gamers play are console games, that have been converted into a PC control scheme, although the platform itself is not a gaming platform.

PCs are mainstream, Consoles are mainstream, but.... PC gaming is not mainstream.

All because they weren't designed for gaming.

Zlychop

With that logic, mobiles phones were not designed for gaming but are now a billion dollar industry, hummm.

Black Ops 2 was running in full HD @ 60fps plus rendering the tablet controller screen at the same time in multiplayer mode. The tablet screen is 854 x 480 (WVGA) so that's 2774x1560 @ 60fps on BO2.

Wii U does 1560p with ease xD

psymon100

Thanks for coming.

I am confident that Wii U will be able to deliver 1080P games. Surely, when Nintendo was talking to IBM/ATI a couple of years back putting plans in place for the Wii U, Nintendo must have known that they need to keep up in the graphics department to prevent 3rd party publishers from ditching them. (As well as a proper online infrastructure etc).

You got one on pre order man?

lmao I had my fun on the other thread but you had to go and do that lol.

Yep all pre-ordered :D you?

[QUOTE="psymon100"] Please join the sticky. The Activision guy at the Nintendo presentation said that it's 'being delivered in full 1080P, and COD's traditional 60FPS' (loosely quoted). So, unless he either lied or used buzzwords, I am led to believe by the publisher that it is 1080P + the gamepad. Bear in mind please that it's not correct to add the resolutions together. If it is 1080p on the TV plus 854x480 on the gamepad, that's 2,483,520pixels. You report 2774x1560 which is 4,327,440pixels. Does my math make sense to you?

psymon100

1080p = 1920x1080

+

gamepad = 854x480

= 2774x1560 amount of pixels being rendered by the hardware.

Sorry sir, I must respectfully disagree with you. I took some time to make a diagram using free software provided by OpenOffice.org. As you can see, all the blue pixels are the additional pixels when using your method. The green and red when summed together gives the figure I calculated.

CompareScreenSizes_zps0d349802.png

Rather than focus on your math, I will join you in saying that it's brilliant the Wii U does this.

You could have just played along with me and had more fun LOL

Thsoe are all the pixels the graphcis card needs to render and its doing it with ease. All im trying to say is the Wii U actually packs a lot fo raw power.

That's not really how that works...it's just running two different screens not one total resolution

lostrib

It doesnt have to be one total reslution. Im stating hardware power, im saying the hardware is capable of playing the game at 1560p at 60fps which means the hardware the Wii U runs on does have a lot of raw power.

Does it fully render the game onto the controller or just menus maps and ui stuff?hexashadow13

It fully renders the game, you can have two player matches without having a split screen.
