Black Ops 2 was running in full HD @ 60fps plus rendering the tablet controller screen at the same time in multiplayer mode. The tablet screen is 854 x 480 (WVGA) so that's 2774x1560 @ 60fps on BO2.

Yesterday we posted anews articleclaiming that developer Sumo Digital told Eurogamer that the Wii Us graphics are on par with the PlayStation 3. It has now been revealed that Eurogamer deliberately crafted a misleading headline in order to capitalize on a hot topic these days: the Wii U specs. The headline read: Sega: Wii U graphics on-par with PlayStation 3, maybe even better. The problem is that the developer never said that. They said that the graphics in the Sonic Racing game are on par with the PS3. Which makes sense, since the game was ported to the Wii U from current generation hardware. Eurogamer spun the quote to make it sound like the developer was referring to the Wii Us graphical capabilities, which are of course much more powerful than current generation systems.

Shame on Eurogamer and its writer Tom Philips for using tactics like these. Their article was widely reported and Eurogamer was cited all over the web, including us here at Wii U Daily. Were sorry for the confusion this may have caused to our readers. From now on, well take everything Eurogamer says with an extra grain of salt.

Last night EA announced itsfinancial resultsfor the first quarter of this year, and the figures say some fascinating things about the state of the games industry. Theres number crunching below, along with some interesting insight into the workings of a major publisher.

First, the big news, the report breaks down earning by platform. PC delivered $276 million, the Xbox 360 $292 million and the PS3 $267 million. So the EA, one of the biggest publishers in the world, made more money from the PC than from the PS3.

The PCs good showing was mostly due to increasing numbers of digital sales. EA made $342 million from those, rising from $232 million last year, while physical sales made $592, dropping from $647 last year. If these trends continue, digital could outpace physical in a year or two, and when that happens at a studio the size of EA, some very interesting things are going to happen to gaming retail.

So where has all that money come from? A lot of it is from Origin, which now has 21 million users. Battlefield Premium also stood out, selling a surprisingly high 1.3 million copies. Fifa Ultimate Team continues to sell like crazy, making $30 million already this year. Rich has something to do with that.

Not everyone can be a winner though, and last nights loser was undoubtedly The Old Republic. Not surprising considering EA just announced thatSWTOR was going free to play. The call did shed a little light on why this happened however.VG247are reporting that SWTORs subscriptions have dipped below a million. According to the results, 40% of players said they didnt want to play a subscription and might return if the game was free.

So thats the brave new world of 2012. PCs are making more money than Playstations, digital sales are catching up to physical ones, and subscription fees are going extinct. Hmm.

Basically, the Wii U at its weakest is an Xbox 360 at its strongest.

Microsoft revealed Xbox 360 SmartGlass at this year?s E3, something we called acomplete gimmickand a pointless attempt to compete with the Nintendo Wii U. Now, Nintendo didn?t have any harsh words for Xbox 360?s knockoff feature, they simply called it ?flattering?. According Nintendo?s Scott Moffitt, VP of sales and marketing, it took Sony and Microsoft 3 years to add motion control systems to their consoles, but that this time, there were a lot quicker to copy Nintendo?s technology. Here?s what he had to say about Microsoft?s new ?idea?:

?We announced second screen gaming last year, and it?s somewhat flattering that it only took people a year this time around.?

He added that SmartGlass doesn?t look like it?s made for a games system, and that players would find themselves ?limited by their number of hands?. Since, obviously, you still have to use a regular controller in addition to the SmartGlass device. Moffit throws in another little zinger at Microsoft:

?I?m not sure how, as a gamer, I would manipulate a second screen with most hands on my controller. We don?t have three hands, unfortunately.?

Indeed. SmartGlass has other major disadvantages, namely, developers can?t count on that players will have access to a secondary screen. This means that the screen can?t contain any major gameplay feature since there?s no assurance that players will have a screen at their disposal. The Wii U on the other hand, includes a touchscreen controller with every single console.

Contrary to the popular and everlasting prophecy that PC gaming is dying chronically, Crytek's CEO Cevat Yerli believes that console are the real dying breed.

?The console will displace the PC, you hear it again and again. On the contrary, I suspect that the next-generation of home consoles will be the last one,?Yerli told German siteGolem.

?Of course there are still hardcore gamers who sit for an hour to install and then play for eight hours. But these consumers are becoming the minority. Today's gamers buy a game for 99 cents, download it and play it for 15 to 20 minutes per day over a period of two months - and then they move on.?

Yerli also confirmed that Crytek already has a Wii U version of its famous CryEngine and that its licensees are already creating games for the upcoming Nintendo console. However, he affirmed that Crytek has no intention to develop any games for Wii U or PlayStation Vita.

?The Playstation Vita is currently too uncertain for us as a platform?he explained.?Technically, I find the Vita very appealing, and have fun with it - no question. From a business perspective it is a bit too late.?
