Art and Echos

Ever noticed how art and echos go hand in hand. Anywhere art is displayed, it is usually housed in a room that magnifies echos.

Character Cupid

This new Valentine's Day feature right here on TV.com is fun. I think that Smallville's Clark Kent and the Cheerleader from Heroes are a natural couple. Of course, their break up fights could get brutal, and the only pain would be emotional.

Pant, pant, pants

Why are pants referred to as a "pair of pants"? How are pants a pair? And why plural? Is each leg a pant, and the combination of pant and pant equal a pair of pants? And if so, what's the waist section, and why does that not get any billing? Other items in my dresser don't have such issues: a sock, and a sock are a pair of socks, makes sense.

Font Style Update

For those of you with a keen eye, you'll notice that there has been a slight adjustment to the font size and line height for body text in your blogs, the forums, news, etc - it's just easier to read. This applies to FilmSpot, TV.com currently, and oh so soon to GameSpot and MP3.com...

Diamond Dave To Jump Again

I swore off area rock long ago, but this will get me back in the 105th row for 105.00 bucks for sure. Diamond dave is joining back up with Van Halen at long last. Here's hoping he avoids the whole Hagar catalog altogether. DLR singing "when it's love" or "love comes walking in" just seems so wrong. It's all about being the ice cream man for dave, no love ballads. best quote from the story: "as far as hurt feelings and water under the dam, like what's-her-name says to what's-her-name at the end of the movie Chicago--'So what? It's showbiz!' "A Van Halen reunion is a lot like NASCAR--are you there to see the winner or the crash? In this aspect, we're a lot closer to Jerry Springer-meets-Knots Landing which, to me, sells T-shirts. Don't just miss the Dave-isms?

It's been a banner week

I've been slowly updating some banners across tv.com of late. Some of you may have noticed new ones on popular shows: Smallville, Battlestar Galactica and Veronica Mars to name a few. It's always interesting the response to new banners. For example, the Smallville community was thankful to no end, while the BSG gang hardly noticed, too busy debating Baltar's possible Cylon origins I suppose, and the Grey's Anatomy folks seemed more concerned with who wasn't represented (ensemble casts are hard to make banners for!) Anyway, I know that whenever I update banners, I get dozens of requests for new ones for less popular shows, or people who want to submit their own to shows they edit or adore. However, unlike the user sub system we run on GameSpot to supply banners to older games, user-created banners for tv are much more difficult to implement. This is because of the sensitivity of tv and actor images, and the general low quality of available images to work from in the first place. So many shows are from pre-web days, and scanned images from old tv guide covers just don't cut it. We have to be far more careful and selective for tv banners, and a majority of submitted banners that I have recieved, are obviously made with love and effort, but the final results too often are not up to the image quality we demand. So, feel free to request away, and I'll try to get them in the design queue, but they will most likely get a low priority I'm afraid. However, sometimes, you'll get lucky and get one right away.

King Kong needs Don King

I've said this before, for FilmSpot I'll say it again, after recently watching Peter Jackson's version of King Kong, the scene that entertained and delighted me most was Kong going toe to toe with other fantastically gigantic creatures. I want more of that. I'm thinking a weekly half hour episode on HBO of King Kong versus a giant Panda, Kong versus a titanic tiger, a huge hamster, giant frogs, dogs, and cats, rats and bats, Kong versus a giant Starship Troopers bug ...Kong versus Godzilla of course,...then the Kraken, next the 50 Foot woman, even one of those War Of The Worlds robots, and finally a giant Rocky! or better a giant Mike Tyson! I take Kong, first round by head bite off.

Gelflings vs Ewoks

Pure drivel debate no. 1: Who would win in a battle...Gelflings or the Ewoks ? One on one, on reflex, I'd say a Gelfling could take down a Ewok in cold blood. Gelfings have that scary back-against-the-wall beady eyed manicured mouse quality that you just wouldn't want to test. However put them into an organized group effort against each other? Ewoks all the way- laughing all the way even. With a "Beechee-wa-wa" battle cry those fuzzy Endor Ursavus' can really put a battle plan together. They may look cute and cuddly, but they have a taste for blood once the battle begins. Combine that quality with their Da Vinci like design and construction of war machines, an army of Gelfings ten times the size would not have a chance.
