I have a XION XON-II in blue LED. It's good enough, but I will never buy a case with a door again. If you can see in my sig, the door that says "XION" got accidently kicked off my rig.

BTW, I like this thread. It's a nice break (so far) from the graphics and proc wars out there in the hardware forums.

BTW(2) Heretic: I know those cases so well, my school bought like 300 of them. =D

The Ultra is the same size as the GTX. It just looks bigger because of the full shroud over the PCB. BTW The Pro Dual is something like more than 12" long, while the GTX is around 11".

Not all ATI cards, only ATI Radeon X1K series. But for Oblivion it didn't matter because no one wanted to do both HDR and AA at the same time unless they had two x1950xtx's.

Lots of Tier 1 companies like Dell and Gateway use BTX form factor motherboards, and they don't like to play with ATX

It depends on what you call "smooth" Maybe indoors, it's smooth, but Oblivion kills any card in outdoor rendering. My rig runs outdoors at 20FPS average at 1024 x 768

If he wants a high end rig, let him have his high end rig. At the very least get a 8800GTX. A computer like that will last you longer than a computer that runs games TODAY on medium/high means it's just barely cutting high end. A Core 2 Duo and a single 8800GTS won't be able to run Oblivion at 1600 x 1200, but a quad-core (tiny bit overkill, maybe) and 2 8800GTX's will run it smoothly. Of course, I can't recommend that to you if you have a 17" monitor, but if you have a nice monitor, you should get an equally awesome rig. Maingear will still OC a Core 2 Duo, namely, the E6600 model.
