Oh boi. 18.

Yep, today is my 18th birthday. Damn, I'm getting old. Hard to believe it's been over a year since I have been on Gamespot. And within that year I have written over one hundred reviews and made plenty of friends here. And for my birthday I am going to go see Tron: Legacy, get Splatterhouse for my 360, eat homemade pizza and Apple Pie cake (literaly, an apple pie built into a whole cake :) ). Well, here's to another year and perhaps another one hundred reviews. Cheerio.
Quick Review: Black Swan
by gamefreak197 on Comments
Black Swan, Harry Potter 7, and Inception. What do these have in common? These are the best films that I have seen in all of 2010. Black Swan was simply an incredible movie. For those who are unknown about the movie, the synopsis is that a ballet dancer is trying to overacheive herself to get perfect for the role of the black/white swan for "Swan Lake". But the constant stress being put upon herself is making her dillusional, thinking that her spot is trying to be taken and thinking that she sees physical pain like cuts and blood and bumps on her body. There's certainly more to the film and I don't want to spoil any of it.
At first, my brother invited me to see this movie. Even though I never heard of it or knew what it was about, I decided to check it out. And let me just say that it was two hours well spent. The thriller aspects of the movie really work and there were even a few points that made me cringe (but not in a bad way). The acting is also superb thanks to people like Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. The delivery is powerful and certainly very beleivable. The setting of the film is something I wouldn't expect myself to watch, but it proved me wrong. But seriously, this is an incredible movie. Any fan of thrillers and dramas, or for people that want to see something new, should consider seeing this. 4 Stars.
*P.S. write down if you can also find the Siskel and Ebert reference.
Early Birthday gift of awesome!

Even though my birthday isn't until Monday my dad managed to send me a console I have been eagerly awaiting for sometime....
SEGA SATURN
All I need to do now is find some games.
Sonic Free Riders demo + Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles impressions
by gamefreak197 on Comments
I went over to my friends house the other day and he told me that he downloaded the Sonic Free Riders demo. As I expected he didn't like it. I decided to give it a go myself and I pretty much agreed. The one thing that really hurts the game is the controls, especially turning. Turning is either delayed or it doesn't respond to my movements well enough. So I certainly know that we are not getting that game :P.
Afterwords he pulled out a much better game: Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. I'm only a couple of hours into the game but I already have really good first impressions. The atmosphere is great, the graphics are very good, music and voice acting is awesome, and the gameplay is, of course, fun. The only nitpick that I can think of is that the shaky camera can effect your aiming, and that caused me a few problems during a couple of boss fights. However, I do feel that the shaky camera makes it seem more realistic since you are afraid and moving in a hurry and constantly getting bombarded, so I feel that it seems more interactive. If you're a RE fan and own a Wii, I highly reccomend it.
Well, that's all for now. Good day.
Sonic Anniversary
by gamefreak197 on Comments
Rumors are going about that the latest Sonic game to celebrate his 20th Birthday will actually be a modern remake of levels that range from the original Sonic the Hedgehog all the way up to Sonic Adventure 2. I suppose this would add to the nostalgia factor and I suppose this may turn out good (if it is ever confirmed true), but personally I would prefer a Sonic Adventure 3 over a compilation. I would just like to have a new adventure bringing in the best gameplay elements from their previous successes, while still adding in some new touches. But what do you guys think?
Gonna be busy for a couple of days.
by gamefreak197 on Comments
For the next two days I'm going to be working my butt off at a debate tournament at my school. I, of course, won't be participating. I will be doing various tasks to keep things in order (or as much as we can considering we end like three hours later than usual). So I'm not going to be around to post. See ya.
Christmas wish list.
by gamefreak197 on Comments
Wow. 2010 is nearly gone. Well I would consider it a good thing since it means we get to Christmas much faster :D. Soon it will also be my 18th birthday. Being the old-school nut that I am, I have been mainly asking for two particular consoles this Christmas: the Sega Saturn and NES.
With the Saturn, what sparked my interest was it's unknown potential. The Saturn presents itself with a lot of great classics like NiGHTS, Panzer Dragoon, Daytona USA, House of the Dead, Guardian Heroes, Sonic Jam, tons of RPGs, and many more. The Saturn proves that it could be just as good as the Playstation. Playstation, of course, overshadowed the Saturn, mainly due to the Playstation's price and library. It's a shame that basterd Bernie Stoler cut the Saturn's life too soon. So hopefully I'll be able to play some Saturn games and review them.
With the NES, it's rather self-explanitory. I usually have to go over to my friend's house to play his NES. So rather than just constantly go over to his house to play it, I rather get one of my own. You can imagine how big of a standout I must be at a school mostly full of current-gen gamers asking for a Saturn and Nintendo over Call of Duty :P.
However, I do plan on getting a few newer games as well in order to keep up with the times. The one I really want to go after the most is Splatterhouse for the 360. I've been following it for some time and the footage I've seen of it only made me want to buy it more. Not to mention Jim Cummings is the voice of the terror mask, which only adds to the awesomeness (Jim is the voice of SATAM Robotnik and the voice of Darkwing Duck).
So that's pretty much my gaming wish list in a nutshell. I'm definitely looking forward to this holiday season.
Quick Review: Harry Potter 7, Pt. 1
by gamefreak197 on Comments
This movie............wow. This is certainly going to be one hell of a finale. This is also certainly the most depressing of the Potter films, and I certainly almost began to cry toward the end (for those who have seen this movie or the book should know what I am talking about). But does that make it a bad movie? Certainly not because this could very well replace the third film as my favorite in the series. Just like with Toy Story, it's going to be wierd to see it all end, especially since these films have been a part of my childhood. If you have not seen this movie yet, do yourself a favor and do so. Just be prepared to shed a tear or two.
