Quick Review: The Expendables

This movie KICKS ASS! Everything that a person loves about the awesome action films of the 80s and 90s is successfully captured in this movie. You got a great cast of action stars (including ARNOLD! who should have gotten more screen time or, even better, been a part of the team), fantastic, over-the-top action set pieces, really fake blood effects, EXPLOSIONS, and great humor value. Action fans, buy this movie!

The SAW series: Suddenly a bit of an interest for me.

For a strange reason I am starting to find a little more interest into the SAW series. I got bored one day on YouTube and I just decided to look up a few various traps. Some of them are rather interesting, while most are kind of hard to watch because of how brutal they are (especially when it involves inflicting damage on one's self, ex. SAW VI). This isn't exactly a series that I can become an avid fan of, but this makes for a good time with friends, especially on Halloween. The two big reasons I usually go and see parts of these films (aside for the games) are:

1. Tobin Bell, who does a great job in each film he is in as the Jigsaw killer as well as having an awesome voice.

2. The soundtrack. Charlie Clouser is a genius. This is, personally, one of my favorite soundtracks in any film series. For those that might not know some of his work:

."The Freezer (Saw 3)" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XR_YTUiyY&feature=related

."The Rack (Saw 3)" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc0CJrrKTXk&feature=related

."F*** This S*** (Saw)" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4_XakjmeUs

."Hello Zepp-a.k.a main theme (Saw 6 version) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz9lUkWmxlU

So, squemish beware. These are seven films that are not made for you.

Huzzah! Early acceptance.

I just got a confirmation saying that I have been pre-accepted into the University of Advancing Technology (UAT). I hope to be going there in the fall of 2012 to study Digital Media. Only one thing stands in my way now.....money. I shall be off on job hunts. Most likely I am not going to be hired for some time, but I have to be more determined than ever to find one if I want to pay for this.

Goodbye Guitar Hero (2005-2011)

Well after five years and many, many games, the Guitar Hero franchise is officially being discontinued by Activision. Whether or not this effects DJ Hero I'm not sure, but let us just hope that it doesn't follow the same path.

I can remember the first time Guitar Hero came out. It was the ultimate party game that attracted a large crowd and brought about some really good soundtracks. The first game I ever played in the series was the sequel Guitar Hero 2, which I found to be better than the first game. Guitar Hero 3 came out and it too was a blast. The last two games in the series I played were "Guitar Hero: World Tour" and "Guitar Hero: Metallica" (my favorite). And since then the series just began to do nothing but bring in decreased sales and decreased popularity. Guitar Hero: Van Halen proved to be a major blow. Finally Activision made the decision to discontinue the rest of the series.

So Rest In Peace Guitar Hero. May it be remembered for the impact it created with its influence of living room rock and loud plastic guitar-shaped controllers.

FF8 First Impressions + Animes

Well I'm now 12 hours into Final Fantasy VIII and I'm done with disc 1. So far I have pretty decent first impressions. This is the third game in the console series that I have played (following FFX and FFXII). I will just go ahead and get a few complaints out. First is the junction system. I don't like the fact that a character has to be equipped with Guardian Forces (summoning monsters) to use other abilities like using magic and regular items. Drawing magic is also mixed. On the one hand you don't have to worry about running out of certain magics since you can absorb them from enemies and they are only consumed one by one. However, only certain enemies have certain magic spells you can draw in, so it can be a bit difficult trying to find a monster that has a magic you are running low on.

Another thing is the writing. Now I personally don't mind the story. I think it suits the Final Fantasy universe rather nicely. The problem is that the writing has a few stupid moments, not only in terms of creating little problems in the story but also for hurting some characters (then again I had similar issues with Final Fantasy X). And finally there is the main character Squall. While I personally don't mind him being sort of a loner and having a focused attention on his duties to avoid being vulnerable, I don't like the fact that his personality centers around being constantly moody, not really showing any other emotion. I'm sure this will change later on but it's kind of annoying and it makes him seem unlikable at first. But beyond these issues everything else about the game is pretty good. The game looks great, sounds great, and has a good battle system (if only the junctioning was better).

Now let's talk Anime :D . I just finished Cowboy Bebop as well as the movie. Both of which just kick too much ass. I will definitely say that this show is infinitely better than 99% of the shows on today (screw you Jersey Shore). Now that I'm done there I am setting my eyes on another series called "Fairy Tail". Don't let the name deceive you, because this show is hilarious. Do check it out if you get the chance. I also have a list of shows I either want to get into or need to get back into:

-Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. (need to get back into)

-Dragon Ball (childhood favorite)

-Full Metal Alchemist (Haven't seen it. Yes, I know, it's horrible that I haven't yet)

-Samurai Champloo (need to get back into)

-Gintama (want to get into)

-Bobobo-bobo-bobo (definitely need to finish because this is funny as hell)

Well, that's all for now. Cheerio ;)
