I went over to my friend's house today to try out the new Playstation Move along with the game he bought for the very reason, Playstation Move Heroes. When I first heard about this, I would think that somehow they would create a cross-over platformer considering it features a few of Sony's best platforming franchises: Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, and Ratchet and Clank. However, my opinion quickly changed over to a negative reception when I found that it was going to be a mini-game compilation. I was quickly turned off from it. However, my friend was actually rather interested. He views this as the best game for the Move so far, so I decided to give it a go.
So, what do I think? Well, let me get the negatives out of the way. First, I still don't like the fact that this is not a platformer. What is worse is that you can't even jump. Second, the story is very weak and generic. Third, there aren't many mini-games to choose from and only a few worlds.
But for what it's worth Playstation Move Heroes is actually better than I initially thought. For one, the controls were surprisingly functional. The control scheme seemed awkward at first (at least on the scheme I had where you use the Playstation Move stick and the left side of your PS3 controler at the same time), but I quickly got used to them and it was actually comfortable. What few mini-games they have are pretty fun. I also like how they still managed to get the original voice actors for each character and they managed to stay true to their personalities. Quite a few reacurring characters from each series are in here as well. The graphics are really good as well, looking sort of like a cell-shaded Ratchet and Clank game, and the music is decent.
Overall, if you are into mini-games and want a Move, then try this game out. Fans of the Sony platforming stars wanting to try it ought to approach this with an opened mind. Don't expect a lot from this, but expect something decent.
