You should quickly come to appreciate that exploration in this game is a game mechanic and that there is very little hand holding. Once you understand that much, nothing should come as a surprise.
I appreciate this game for what it does. Yes, whilst it is clearly on the hardcore end of the spectrum, Justin has become numb by the linear trash of games that has taken over the industry of late.
One other thing I would say is that, whilst the UI has been tidied up (though not significantly), the game, like its predecessors, is designed so that there is very little hand holding. Indeed you need to discover things by reading messages and turning to the net. I've come to love this community way of engaging with the games.
HI Cam, great show. I wondered whether you could answer this - Liquid hated Solid in MGS1 for being given the dominant genes whilst He (Liquid) received all the recessive genes. Is that possible when making identical clones? How can you distinguish dominant and recessive genes?
Excellent episode as always Danny though I watched this one with extra intrigue, as I see the great benefits of Netflix and wonder how this could be applied to games.
The biggest obstacle I see is not convincing gamers that a flat monthly fee for access to a games library (i would be happy to pay £30 per month for a games library which includes new releases too!) but how the financial model would work between Sony and publishers/developer on both ends of the spectrum and anywhere inbetween.
Example: how do Sony adequately remunerate say Rockstar who made billions on GTA V and the small indie developer that sells 50k units of their game. Can Sony adequately distinguish between the two if such a service replaced physical and digital sales (sales numbers demonstrating the success of a game)? If they cant, what knock on effect would that have on games development?
I should add, games I am skipping / staying away from is any form of COD, AC Black Flag, most new next gen releases like dead rising, Ryse etc and FIFA 14.
Personally I think these periods are great where not a lot is going on - great time to catch up - even on reading (been stuck half way through a feast for crows for far too long!). Ive just finished GTA V and Tomb Raider. Im currently playing Bio shock Infinite - nearly finished and picking up the last of us afterwards. Ive also got to finish walking dead and start wolf among us. And then there's skyrim which i'm still trying to complete. For my on-line fix, its BF4.
If you are using Danny's list, the only game that you MUST play is dark souls. Seriously amazing!
And for completeness Im watching Borgia on netflix which is quite good and plan on starting sons of anarchy soon after.
