I think third wave feminists are all for women using their sexuality for power. They eschew any sort of expectaions and want women to be able to be whomever they feel like being without restrictions. Which somewhat ironically is not a feminist exclusive viewpoint because both sexes have restricted expectations on how we should behave. e.g. Women SAY they like sensitive nice guys, but generally, they don't want to date them.
Valve games are an exception in their typical protrayals of both men and women in games. They've got the pencil-necked geek Gordon Freeman and strong women as heroes and yet their games are kinda popular... Valve is not publicly traded, and they don't have to answer to shareholders with a collective mindset regarding what should (sex) and should not (real people) sell. Indie games tend to buck the sexism status-quo as well. Maybe this push at enlightenement needs to be directed at the executives and marketeers in the big game companies and not gamers in general...
The fact that a lot of games come from Japan doesn't help either. Their social mores related to gender roles would be considered backwards by most westerners. Can anyone think of a Japanese woman gaming executive or game designer?
I know what pedantic means, but you took the time to post your pedantry. Why make the argument if you think it's meaningless? Opressive sexism exists in positions of authority outside institutionalized policy and it goes beyond "anything can be oppression if I feel like calling it that."
Would you want to be a woman applying for a job to men with a PERSONAL sexist predjudice, especially if you're competing against multiple men for a job in a traditionally or predominately male occupation? I think you would feel opressed. Laws can only go so far in addressing personal predjudice as it affects society as a whole. It also takes enlightenment, which is what these videos are working at. If you agree it's something worth striving toward, you shouldn't have a problem with working beyond laws and regulations.
Those representations both appeal more to men than they do to women. Women don't like roid-raging musclebound apes any more than they like barbie in a chain mail bikini.
The controller's other inputs will be able to do anything multi-touch does, and what exactly does anyone use multi-touch for other than zoom? Every time I have to input text with a controller, I wish it had a keyboard. That alone makes this thing attractive.
The linked article says US. Money won't make you happy if you hate your job, never see friends or family and don't have the time or energy to spend it. Good employers know people need to balance their work and personal lives.
Here in 2012 in the first world, that's not that much money. The average programmer in any field gets that much, and they don't have to work themselves to death.
