Lovely, I leave the SW forums for a good 6 months and topics like this still exist?

Anyways, I'm not going to deny Halo 3 is a good game with a great multiplayer experience. But best? I'm sorry, but Team Fortress 2 takes Halo 3, bends it over, and makes it its *****. Free updates, constant support, infinitely more variety, and a fun-loving fanbase make it superior to Halo 3 in my eyes. You may call it a cluster****, but I see it as an enjoyable, fast paced, and unique FPS that no other multiplayer FPS has managed to surpass. I realize that raging fanboys like to put Halo 3 on this elevated pedestal of greatness, but you guys are going to have to realize one of these days that Halo 3 is not the best. It's great, but not the best in any sense of the word.

Ha ha wow, just realized there are quite a lot of people who like Fire Emblem despite classifying it as an "unpopular" series. Maybe it's more well-known than I thought? I'd still bet a good sum of money that nobody would know what you were talking about if you brought it up in conversation though.

By series, I'm going to assume it had to have more than one game.

Popular: Gran Turismo, Forza, any racing sim you can list, I probably don't like it, those are just the two I've played.

Unpopular: Fire Emblem. Seriously, this series doesn't get nearly as much attention as it deserves.

WRPGs definitely.

I love almost all RPGs, and when I hear people saying great things about games like Fable, KOTOR, Mass Effect, etc, I can't help but want to get in on that fun. But no matter what, they always bore me eventually.

When I played Fallout 3, I played it roughly at the same time as Persona 4. I tried to enjoy it, but no matter what, I kept getting drawn back to the actually compelling characters in Persona 4. The characters in Fallout 3 were just too flat.

***warning, rest of post contains partial spoilers from Mass Effect and Persona 3. I'm pretty sure anyone who cares has already played them, but just in case.***

Same issue when Fable 2 was released. Could not stand it after 7 or so hours in, the artificial morality system just didn't do it for me. I tried to enjoy Mass Effect as well, ironically, I recently bought Persona 3: FES and was rendered incapable of enjoying Mass Effect. I'm going to be honest, I couldn't give a damn about killing Wrex or leaving Kaidan to die. Now Mitsuru's backstory? That was something that really got to me. The main character's "death"? That left me stunned for days. Hell, even Junpei was a more likable character than the majority of Mass Effect's cast.

It's a shame really, I hear people talking about how awesome WRPGs are, but I simpy cannot get interested in the genre. Maybe I'm playing the wrong WRPGs? Maybe it's because I value story and characters over gameplay in my RPGs? (yeah, I think the stories in JRPGs are better than WRPGs)Idon't know, but for the time being, JRPGs are the ones that continue to grasp my attention.

Gaming was fine before sony joined and it will be fine after sony leaves.

^This

Gaming was mediocre before sony joined, and gaming would die as we know it the day they leave the video game market completely, their leadership inspired countless devs and sparked the creation of some if not most of the greatest franchise in history and those already existing by the time they joined reached their true potential, Final Fantasy? Resident Evil, Everything about the Ps1 era was wonderful. If sony drops out of the race, I'll Quit gaming and watch the industry crash from afar

^This^

Destroys any credibility you had claiming you started gaming on the NES.

Its great that it got a good score.

But still, handheld games dont get reviewed the same. I mean looking at the scores your saying that this DS game beats Gears 2, reistance 2, Killzone 2, and past console GTA games?

I dont think so, this just proves that whilst great, its reviewed differently to non handheld gaming systems...

NinjaMunkey01

have you played the game?

No, I might get it though. But call me prejudist against handhelds, but I just cannot see how it could ever be as good as a proper console game like killzone 2 with better visuals, cutscenes, larger worlds, draw distances and good oline play. I just cant see how it could ever be anywhere near as good as GTA4, or any of my favourite shooters. Maybe im wrong. Though thats just how I feel about this. I mean can you really say its better than killzone 2? really? Be honest, or gears 2? of RE5?????

I can honestly tell you that The World Ends With You, a DS game was much better than Gears of War 2, RE5, or GTAIV (keep in mind, my opinion. I doubt anybody else believes this). I haven't played GTA Chinatown Wars so I figured another AAAe DS game would suffice for your argument. No one is going to deny that handhelds lose out to consoles in terms of technical ability, but handhelds have shown us that sometimes a good story, fun gameplay, and an overallnice design can overcome technical superiority.

Probably the best news I've seen all day...well actually not so great considering we don't get it until 2010. But whatever, glad to see one of my favorite independent devs (and motley crew of hilarious Newgrounds staff members) working to bring us more old-school styled goodness.

I utterly completely agree. If there is one regret I have this gen, it's that I wasn't born a millionaire so I could afford a PS3 as well. :P

But seriously, Valkyrie Chronicles and Disgaea III are the two biggest losses to me. I'm the sort of Disgaea fan who plays them for at least150-250 hours...only to be denied that same loss of my social life a third time around simply because it happens to be on thesingle console I didn't happen to own this gen. And when Kingdom Hearts III and Persona 5 (you knowit's going to show up eventually)are inevitablyreleased for the PS3, I won't be able to play them either, effectively crushing my soul. :[

Weird I would think every sheep out there would be going nuts right now.

AAllxxjjnn

M rated games aren't their thing.

Psh, tell that to the (disappointed, but in the end, I just went to the IGN review to make myself feel better :P) Madworld fans after the GS review.

And concering that actual review itself, I'm pretty surprised. Despite enjoying my DS far more than my PSP, when I first saw it, the first thing that came to my mind was, "Oh jeez, compared to thePSP versions, this is going to be slaughter." Turns out innovation and Rockstar's own understanding of the DS's limits (and their ability to utilize that)win out in the end. :)

To all those who say they enjoy playing their PSP more, I would seriously love it if you guys would tell me what games you're playing. Other than Patapon and Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, I haven't found a single other game that truly catches my attention. God of War felt better on the PS2 anyway, Jeanne d'Arc wasn't as good as Disgaea or Advance Wars, Tekken's not as fun as Street Fighter (not an issue of handhelds, just an issue of my taste in fighting games), and Loco Roco was rather disappointing. I've played more games than that, but nothing else is even coming to mind on the spot right now. I'm not kidding when I say I'd like to hear what you guys have been playing because I'm trying out games from genres I like, but nothing on the PSP is truly amazing me.

In other words, I get much more fun out of my DS. While there are a couple of games I enjoy on the PSP, they simply don't compare to the sheer deluge of quality you get from the DS, everything ranging from the quirky, intelligent, and unique (Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice, Professor Layton, etc.) to the addictive and intuitive (Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing) to the classics (Final Fantasy IV, Dragon Quest IV+V). No doubt they're both great handhelds, but the ammount of effort and quality that Nintendo has put into the DS really shines.
