Because those 3 (an Alex Navarro on a good day) had one thing that so many reviewers here at GS lack: consistency. Every review they did, you knew regardless of score, they were going to be able to back it up. No matter what the game it was, you knew they were going to come at it from the view of a critic, not a gamer. You knew that instead of glorifying what it had, they were going to attack what it lacked and be honest about it. Not like some reviewers who overrate decent (but not AAA or AAAA-worthy) games and underrate good games (for what, lack of Mii support!? Go to hell reviewer-who-shall-not-be-named-for-his-terrible-reviewing-ability!). I may have disagreed with some of their decisions, but at least they backed it up with undeniably valid points.

Also, Greg K is a Super Robot Taisen fan. ANYONE who can enjoy customizing giant robots and unleashing super attacks that last nearly a minute long is an alright guy to me.

Just finished the demo and absolutely loved it. The free-flowing gameplay, the artstyle, everything about it appealed to me. As an amateur freerunner (offshoot/variation of parkour), I've always wanted a game with this sort of flow and Mirror's Edge gets it perfectly. I also loved the animated cutscenes, great stuff, very unique and something that someone like me can appreciate in a game. I wasn't interested in it before, but after playing the demo, it'll probably be a week 1 purchase.

Now I just need to get around to beating Mirror's Edge's aesthetic opposite, Fallout 3. Man, there's such a contrast between my 2 most anticipated games of the fall season. :P

Wow, I didn't know other gamers were so freaking defensive of their stuff. I'm glad I have real-life friends to trade games with. I will buy Mirror's edge, my friend buys Fable 2, and another buys Dead Space and that takes at least $120 off our spending woes. Sure, we could all but it on our own, but why bother when the games can be easily beaten in less than 2 weeks (at least that seems to be the case with Fable 2 and Dead Space).

Wow, only 2 (or 3) guys made a game that amazingly unique? Props to them, defnitely got a shot at some form of GOTY, whether it be artstyle, best indie game, or whatever other title would fit it.

Despite my feverent adoration of unique artstyles, cel-shading does have it's down moments. While I'll still probably end up buying Valkyria Chronicles, unlike most cel-shaded games, it won't be for the artstyle.

On one hand, we can blame Nintendo for destroying their own image as the only company that truly cared about their fans, but at the same time, who changed them into that? It was none other than us, they tried to give us hardcore games, look at the GC's numerous attempts to play the PS2 and Xbox's game, hell, I say the GC was a more hardcore console then the Xbox ever was and certainly leaps and bounds ahead of the PS2 in its first 3 years, yet look where their "hardcore" approach got them. Nothing but humiliation and the arrogant ill-wishes of gamers everywhere. It's almost ironic how gamers' opinions change without even realizing that Nintendo hasn't become greedy, they've simply adapted to survive because the market that once loved them no longer appreciated their existence.

[QUOTE="farnham"]

i love the concept of a serious gaming machine

lol what is a gaming machine for anyway

its for entertainment nothing more nothing less..

you dont buy a 360 to do anything more serious then the wii

angry_fork

Mass Effect is more serious then Wii Music.

Just curious, but do you honestly think that makes the console more serious? Both entertain, they just simply use different methods. Sorry, but your glorified electronic box is not a holy conduit for a great level of "serious" or "important" entertainment. The games might be more serious or deep depending on how you see things (funny how you used Wii Music instead of an actually good Wii game like TP, NMH, or SMG) but the console itself is not "more serious" because it has a stronger processor in it.

I wouldn't go as far as saying I hate the Wii (after all, Mad World and No More Heroes 2 are on the horizon :D), but as of now, I am quite disappointed with it despite being a Nintendo fan since the SNES era. I will never wish for Nintendo to do badly, but I hope that the 360 or the PS3 (not both) begins to outsell the Wii just so Nintendo will get off their mountain of cash and use some of it to give us a better gaming experience.

Ouch, didn't know the graphical issues in the PS3 versions were so great to actually require a lower score. Ah well, I own a 360 so I guess I'm good. Glad to see it get AAA, I wonder how those hardcore Fallout fans are feeling now, that the "watered-down disgrace" is as good if not even better than its predecessors.

After the slight disappointment of PoR (of course in 2D Castlevania terms, slight disappointment just means it's simply awesome instead of really awesome), I'm glad to see that score. I finally have something new to play on my DS again, and handheld Castlevania games in general are always great.
