i7 is pointless but if you can afford to get Radeon HD 7990 6GB fastest dual gpu on the market, go for it

Well, afford is a stretch. I have about £500 saved. I have seen those drop in price a bit.... probably not the best option out of the possibilities I was looking at.

Consensus seems to be to wait. I guess I can do that for a few more months and then maybe have more saved and larger price drops on the GPU.

On a side note, waiting means I will be able to see just how much the new games push the GPUs.

I'd upgrade the CPU for the motherboard and its features, as the 590 is still really powerful, but both could last you for a while without upgrading. I'd wait if I were you.

Thanks, yeah I like a lot of the new features on the MOBOs and processor and the GeForces Experience stuff doesnt work on my 590. Not the latest screenrecording stuff anyway.

I can wait. But if I want something to build over the holidays, maybe ill go for a mobo and processor upgrade. Hold out on the GPU till next year.

Yeah, at least wait for 20nm GPU's. And your CPU should be fine still. I'm still using a 3.6GHz Phenom II X4, and I don't have any trouble running games...

Thanks for the advice. I can wait for sure. I have saved up around £500, was looking at a console, but thought i would see what parts I could upgrade on my PC.

Thanks everyone.

Looking to upgrade, just wondering what your thoughts are if I can only upgrade one.

Current - gtx590

Upgrade - gtx780(maybe ti) / AMD R9 290x ( Radeon HD 7990 6GB maybe? if the price drops?)

and

Current - Intel Core i5 2400 @ 3.10GHz Sandy Bridge

Upgrade - i7 4770k

Thanks for the help

and graphics/visual wise.... im talking late gen, highly optimized ps4 games (ps4 has the advantage of being a closed platform) vs. lets say a 2000 dollar PC rig, with titan.....yeah it might be powerful, but its not optimized like the PS4?

PC not optimised? New drivers come out every week with 10 - 20% performance increases for top games?

PS4 relies on the game developer to add optimisation.

Nvidia and I am sure AMD do the same, update the drivers to work with the game.

The Games I want:

Looking at next gen file size announcements so far (exclusives included):

Sony's Killzone: Shadow Fall = 50GB (here for comparison)

BF4 = 30+ GB of harddrive space

TitanFall = 10GB

Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag = 30GB

Destiny = 15GB

The Division = 20GB

The Witcher 3 = 18GB

Watch_Dogs = 20GB

So these are the games I am looking at installing. Total PC = 143GB

While I concede it does not average at 50, some of these are early specs.

I constantly hear how launch titles will not represent what studios do once they know the system.. I think these sizes will only get bigger.

The reason I mention KillZone, is that they are a Sony exclusive company. If anyone can get the most out of that machine early.. it will be them. 50GB.

On a side note, if you are just downloading these.. the time it takes to download these is going to be crazy.

firstly, games aren't going to average 50GB just yet, it's going to take a while, possibly more than a year.

second, you're taking the future average game size and comparing it with the current SSD prices. by the time they are 50GB in size on average, SSDs will be much cheaper.

Well If I want to play BF4, Call of Duty, Etc.. they are all around that size.

With AAA games looking like they are going to average somewhere around 50GB to download, do you think this rules out going 100% SSD for next gen?

Not sure of the prices for SSDs in your areas, but in the UK its around £130(ish) for 250GB. So that would be 5 games.

Are you running a mix of SSD and HDD?

nope. it would be 4 games @ 50GB each if the drive was just for games. If it has the OS too, then 3.

Right.. and if you added one more application it would be... the point still stands.

The price of SSDs means that HDD are the only affordable option right now.

I have my OS on an SSD and I have 2 other SSDs with Games and Apps on. They are almost full and I have to manage what games are installed.

Just wondering what other people are doing, planning on doing.
