Am I the only one that thinks these remasters suck ass? There's numerous mods available that make the game look much better than this so called "remaster". Outside of a FEW updated textures a new bush or tree here and there the game looks the same as it did 5 years ago. Why is anyone buying this shit!?
@SirNormanislost: It's the same genre. This is the kind of game Diablo 4 or any other loot based ARPG will be competing against. It's not like the racing games didn't have to adapt once Gran Turismo came out even if they were "different".
If a Diablo 4 ever sees the light of day it'll have to do A LOT of things right in order to redeem the series. Diablo went from being the best loot-based ARPG around to not even being a contender anymore. Dark Souls has pretty much got the dreary, dark and depressing world covered, the better co-op and better PVP, better character building, more classes and the MUCH better combat. Diablo 3 on the other hand is a mindless grind where impossibly high RNG decides whether the hundreds of hours you're spending on it are worth it or not. They removed everything that made Diablo 2 good (class diversity, builds, trading, co-op PvE) and replaced it with randomly generated item stats.
I can't say I've followed this game very closely but it's hard to get excited about it. The concept is great and it's, technically, quite an achievement but there just doesn't seem to be any meat on them bones. It's all about the exploration and hypothetical finds, but just like someone said below, procedurally generated worlds are very limited in diversity and scope. It's just like random loot in an RPG. Sure there's virtually an infinite amount of stats you can have on a sword but in the end it's a range of the same values and colors applied to a same-looking object.
It'll be quite interesting to see what the developers will do with this game and what else they'll add to it besides the exploration but it must be said that an exploration heavy game with no story and very little action will get boring rather quickly.
Great conference, as usual... it's just that the games are STILL not here. Everything looks interesting to great and they all seem worth playing but they're trickling in. This generation is surely taking it's sweet ass time to get going...
@p1p3dream: This is not entirely true. I still have a 6 year old TV with 200hz and a 1080p display. Which would now-a-days be considered mainstream or low-end by today's standards but definitely not obsolete. It seems to me that most people are a bit confused between "tech" and PC gaming. As someone who mainly plays on PC (hence why I didn't have a PS4) I get the risks: every year a new piece of hardware is going to come out that's going to make my hardware almost obsolete (especially when it comes to GPUs).
However, consoles are on a different life and business cycle. I'm not saying that this isn't a good strategy but, then again, you don't see Samsung or Apple launch new packages or special editions of their phones 3 weeks before the new product comes out. On top of that most of the world already knows that Samsung and Apple will launch a product every year, like clockwork, through a press conference that is generally held on a similar date every year. Furthermore, if all of this isn't enough to make sure that consumers know what they're getting into, your mobile plan lasts 2 years and, when you renew it, you get a massive phone discount + (possibly) trade-in value/rebate from your old phone.
That's why the "upgrade every 2 years" system works and phone manufacturers can come up with vastly superior phones every 2 years. Take this model and apply it to, say, $8000 DSLRs and you're going to have a MASSIVE consumer issue.
Anyway, I guess we'll know for sure next week what the deal is with the new PS4, or if it even exists. As far as I'm concerned there's just very few games that come out exclusively on PS4 for it to warrant getting a refund on my PS4 and putting the money towards a newer system. However, I'm not exactly one of those people who always needs to be on the bleeding edge of technology.
