@ilantis @jayjay444 I'm on level 7/8 of my legendary playthrough and can honestly say that Promethean Knights are the hardest enemies in the series if you don't have a plasma pistol handy (which you won't if you're not fighting covenant in the same level)
@DAMSOG @GOGOGOGURT Halo:Evolutions is a good one to get you exploring the universe- it's a collection of short stories by a bunch of different writers, so there's a good chance you'll enjoy a bunch of them. There's a cool one about the Brutes (jiralhanae) that kind of plays like a "cannibals in the amazon" story and Frank O'Connor writes a really fantastic one called "Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian" about a terminally ill ODST who finds himself the lone survivor on a covenant-occupied ship. For full novels, Tobias Bucknell's "The Cole Protocol" is great look at the dynamics of the human civil war and how it affects colonist/unsc relations even during the covenant war and all of the Eric Nylund books (which follow Master Chief, Dr. Halsey and the other Spartan-IIs) are great. Really the only Halo book that isn't really worth reading is "The Flood" which follows the story of the first game. Just play Halo: Anniversary and find the terminals instead. The terminal video for the level "Keyes" is adapted from the most interesting part of that book.
@GOGOGOGURT even from a narrative perspective it would be really cool to explore that area of the fiction - the "freedom or anarchy?" of the Innies vs. the "civilization or dictatorship?" of the UNSC would ask some really cool questions to gamers who DON'T read the books and think that Halo is a "man vs. alien" lore with no depth. You and I (clearly) read the books and have a good handle on just how awesome the series truly is, but think of how many people out there who ARE halo fans have no idea of the wonderful complexity of the universe they love! For all of these reasons (and more!) i vote bring on the spin offs, bring on more books, bring on more comics and for the love of god, bring on a proper hollywood movie! (Forward Unto Dawn was great, but MORE!!!!)
@GOGOGOGURT I disagree- i think there could be a whole line of ODST games looking at other parts of the wars (ANY of them- an Innies vs. UNSC human on human game would be pretty interesting) - I think it would be particularly cool if the ODST games moved further away from Halo gameplay and had sort of a Gears of War-meets-squad-shooter style. Think of how awesome Ghost Recon Future soldier would have been if it were ODSTs fighting Innies in the colonies before the covenant war. It would be REALLY cool if the last level was Harvest during the first covenant invasion and was WAY harder than the rest of the game.
@GOGOGOGURT hahaha, you can always tell when someone has been reading the Halo books when they call Elites "Sangelii" - I piss off my friends all the time in co-op/spartan ops when I say stuff like "4 kig-yar on the bridge!"
I disagree - i say keep it all as-is under the hood just like the Halo CE:A remake from last year. That way people can play the game as a piece of history AND as another shiny new Halo game with pretty graphics. Also Halo 2 had the HARDEST Legendary campaign of them all, so it'd be cool for new players to claim bragging rights on the remake (as with Halo CE:A )
And let's face it, the real "ending" of Halo 2... was Halo 3.
I'm totally on board for a Halo 2 HD edition for 360 to tide us over on the wait to Halo 5. Especially if they update some of the old maps into Halo 4 the way they did with CE:A and Reach last year. Also that would mean that Halo 1-4 (plus ODST, Reach and Wars) would all be playable in 16:9 HD on 360. As it stands now, if you want to do a "Halo-fest" you have to bust out an original xbox copy of 2 to play ONE game in SD... which kind of blows.
@magicalclick I will stick with my opinion that Halo 2 has the hardest legendary campaign in the series... the jackal snipers.... the damned jackal snipers!!(to be fair, I'm playing through 4 on normal right now- saving legendary for when I'm not glued to the story)
@Dedakiss @jcr8 ...you haven't played Halo 4 have you?
And AC3 might not look like a gigantic step up in a screenshot- but consider than AC3 can have like 10x more characters on screen at any given time than the first game with little to no quality loss (over Revelations even)
Reach definitely should definitely have been in this video- I would argue for ODST as well (human models were a LOT better than in 3), but it looked/played a lot like Halo 3. Reach looked WAY different than 3 and is an important visual stepping stone between 3 and 4. I would've much preferred them take the time to dip in to analyzing those games than the joke about health packs being food, the stupid Jurassic Park compositing bit and the really drawn out "look! you can melee them all you want in Halo 2 and they don't keep hemorrhaging!"
I think this is a good call on THQ's part. They aren't exactly known for releasing the most polished games around- so rather than gunning for a release date and further dumping on their own reputation, they are taking the time to let a game "cook" properly. I'd rather wait another 3 years for a new Metro game than play one that ends up being crappy. It's not like it's a narrative I'll die if I don't jump back into immediately, but whenever it shows up, it could be a good time.
