(speciffically the price)  also, arent the intel core 2's e6450 and e6350...(uhhh i dont remember if thats the exact name of them) coming the 22nd?   anyone excited?  anyone building a new rig soon?

this sounds similar to what just happend to my card.  texture stretching and artifacts on the screen.  my video card crapped out because it wasnt a very high quality one (diablotek).  i just bough a 50 dollars bfg card to tide me over until i rebuild a new system in the summer.  sounds to me like its overheating or dying...you might have to buy a whole new card.

yeah the geforce 7950 will run those games on high easy as well as you have the other decent components (which i assume you do).  could you link me to the card?  ive never heard of msi but i checked it out on another site and it looks decent, however if the card is cheaper than the other ones of the same calibur there could be a reason why.  it could end up crapping out on you a lot faster than if you invest more money.  i bought a diablotek card in the same situation you're in which crapped out on me about a year after the purchase and i had to buy a new card :(.  i bought a bfg and never looked back.  also, what resolution will you be playing the games at?  thats a big factor.  you could be fine with spending the same ammount on a 256mb version and have a far more quality card.  For the other person...EVGA is a trusted video card manufacturer and also...anytime you can afford a BFG card...go with it.  the cards are a bit more pricey but come with lifetime warrentys, overclocked out of the box and they generally run cooler than cards running with no overclocked settings (both of you).

wow, that sounds really messed up. i reccomend just reformatting, then just make sure you maintain your computers files etc. defrag monthly, use a firewall and spyware protection. if you're good about it, you wont have to do system restores which can obviously mess your files up. anyone else have suggestions for him?

you're fine with that base knowledge of compatibility.  just google some build sites or pick up a 5 dollar computer magazine.  i bought a really nice pc gamer magazine that shows like 60 pictures of an in depth build process.  anyways, theres a lot of free knowledge out there, i suggest you use it.  building a computer is really easy.  go for ittttt.

ok im kind of confused on what your exact problem is...but ill try and help.  first of all when you buy a hard drive...let say 160 gig...you wont get exactly 160 gigs, it will always be a little less than what it says it is.  secondly, you can do a complete reformat by deleting the partition completely.  to do this...just put your windows disc in, restart your computer, press enter to boot from cd and wait until you get to the screen where windows displays your partitions.  select your main partition (which is C: or the drive you have windows on)  and press d to delete the partiton.  next hit L to confirm this and your hard drive will be completely cleared (like when you first bought it)  now, you hit enter on the unformatted partition, windows will format it and you just follow the windows install from there.  its really easy.

thats true, i could get a smaller hard drive.  the reason i kind of want a big one is because games have been taking up 6-10 gigs of space on average.  i dont know ill have to see where i am financially i guess.  any other opinions/suggestions out there?

alright, when the e6420 and e6320 are realeased im planning (if i can still afford it) to order my pc parts.  i want to look at the power supply and processor in paticular.  heres what i have as of now:

Case:  NZXT Apollo BLACK NP Black SECC Steel Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Motherboard:  ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Video Card:  EVGA 256-P2-N624-AR GeForce 7900GS 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card (ill upgrade this later, thinking budget)

PSU:  CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 520W Power Supply

(Someone recommended this over the 600W I had selected because they said it was a lot better and more reliable, any suggestions?)

CPU:  Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6400

RAM:  OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2P800R22GK

HD: Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JSRTL 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Extra Case Fan: Rosewill RFA120L-W 120mm 4 White LEDs LED Case Fan

The PSU I have selected now is a bit pricey, but it's a good investment.  However, I'm wondering if I can save some cash by going with something else but of the same caliber, not sacrificing quality for more watts.  Enough to power the system of course but I want to say something else before someone makes a suggestion.  If I decide to go with an e6320 instead of the e6420 would that be a smart decision?  I want to play all the source engine games, company of heroes and of course crysis.  Basically, I am trying to save some cash because I can't afford to shell out a ton of money for this system.  Any suggestions?
