Are there any non-Japanese RPGs (or JRPG-styled) out there? It seems like D&D Tactics and Untold Legends might be the only ones... anyone have others to offer?

Hmmm...well this thread has already gotten confrontational, but I'll still throw my vote in on the side of the guy who said he plays just for fun. I would not go so far as to say that it is "bad" or "depressing" for those who look to games as a means of escapism. I think everyone has some device that they use for that. For me, it is sitting on my patio drinking a glass of wine and smoking a cigar...not wearing my watch so I'm not constantly looking at the time, and my cell phones somewhere in the house where I can not hear them. Or riding my motorcycle, SCUBA diving, or backpacking alone...things that require your focus and attention so that there is no left over capacity to be worrying about the BS back at the office.

For me, games are not a means of escape, and they are not a proving ground for my skills. Although I do feel a sense of reward when I employ a particularly well played strategy in an RTS or turn-based strategy game, that is about the extent of my 133t-ness. I'm not interested in measuring my gaming performance against anyone else. When I play online it is becuse I enjoy the circle of friends that I've accumulated on XBox Live or XFire, and the enjoyment is out of the time we hang out together laughing and joking and talking about games, technology, and entertainment. So I guess the social aspect is one of the reasons that I play.

At the end of the day, gaming is simply my preferred choice in entertainment. I like it more than watching TV because I think TV is predominantly a passive activity. You sit in receive mode and have the artist's perspective of a story broadcast at you. While there is some assessment on your own part, it is not interactive. I like gaming because you spend every minute thinking. You act, the Ai or human opponent responds. You are presented a puzzle, you have to figure it out to move on.

I do not think that anyone's reason for gaming is right or wrong, good or bad. This is an interesting thread because people are voicing the different reasons that they have chosen gaming as a hobby. It should be enough that our hobby is becoming more and more recognized as a legitimate past time, and not just something kids do on Saturday mornings or to get out of homework, or something adults do to waste time.

Really depends on your budget for a processor:

If under $100:AMD.

If over $100:Intel.

And i presume you're gonna have a good deal of money to burn when you build this rig.

AARONRULZ1

i figure ill be using iBuyPower.com or cyberpowerpc.com to order the rig

I wouldn't take a chance with them if you're getting a prebuilt,go with dell, you can't get something decent from them, also velocity micro and ABS are decent prebuilt brands, but why woun't you build your own rig? much cheaper and you get more bang-for-your-buck.

I wouldn't go as far as to say those two dealers are pure crap. I know a lot of purists will dog them, but they put out a decent product - so long as you know you get what you pay for.

I'm not really worried about a GFX card. When it comes time to need to upgrade my 7900, I will, to whatever is out there that fits my budget. The 9800 is far enough off for me to not give it a lot of thought.

Well, I'm definitely not averse to checking it out. I haven't found anything yet that really has changed my mind, though. From what I've read, the one I've got should work with Penryn, but I haven't necessarily found any solid evidence either way on it. I'm not hip to DDR3, either. I'm guessing when it becomes industry standard, I might be looking at upgrading my mobo anyway. Maybe?

Yeah, yeah, another one of these. But, I think I've narrowed down my choices, and would like to get some input from you smartie-heads out there. I'm not going for super-top-of-the-line performance or anything, but I think this will take care of my gaming needs for awhile. If you see any gaping holes, let me know.

Case

Mobo

Processor

RAM

PSU

DVD Burner

For the time being, I'm going to recycle my Audigy2 and my 7900GT, upgrading the GT to probably the 320mb 8800 within a month or so. I am not planning to OC anything, so I'm guessing extra fans aren't going to be necessary. Anyway, that's what I've got. Comments welcome.

Here, get this motherboard for $3 more.

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

And you still need a hard drive. Try this

Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Sorry, forgot to mention that I have a 500gb HD I'm using.

Why that mobo vs the one I picked? Just curious.

6750 cheaper than the 6600? I thought they were right about the same.

Wasn't the E6750 supposed to be $180 at release, too?Infinite-Zr0

I read that, too...
