so after learning that my HDD is about to die (as you can see in my post :http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27120469&msg_id=318161195#318161195)

i am now looking to change it. i'm down to 2 options:

1) Western Digital Scorpio Blue (320gb 5400rpm)

2) Seagate Momentus (320gb 5400rpm)

which one do you think i should go with? i'm talking loading speeds, reliability, noise level, or just better brand over-all. what do you think? i don't need exact details and measurements, just your thoughts. thanks

You can just swap out the hard drive and they are pretty cheap. You may want to backup your save data on an external hard drive if you have one.

thankfully i regularly back up my data to a 160gb external hdd.

Then your all set. Just look up a guide on how to swap out the HDD and you should be all good if yours gives out.

any recommendations for a quiet and reliable HDD? how are those western digital scorpio? i read good things about them. any other HDD that you can recommend?

i have a relatively new 80gb ps3. for some reason, the HDD is making this clicking, or ticking, noise. it sounds like a computer operating. i know it is the HDD because:

1) as i said, it sounds like the HDD of a computer

2) i only hear it when the HDD access indicator light is on

is it ok for me to be able to hear the HDD operating? or is my hard drive going bye bye?

Dont worry to much about it. I had the same issue with AC2 (happened once) & my PS3 is only 5 months old.Gamer197039
mine is only 3 months old. i thought it was the game, but wanted to hear someone saying it happened to them too, just to be on the safe side

today while playing assassins creed 2 it suddenly froze somewhere in Venice. this is the first time this happened and after a restart of the ps3, it didn't happen again. still, has anyone else had this game freeze on them? is it the game or the ps3?

What click click click? Are you sure you're not talking about the sound the disc drive makes when reading a disc sometimes? Sort of printer-ish?

amsfm6
it's the same noise a computer makes, "thinking sound." you can't really hear it during gameplay, only cut-scenes or quiet parts. but imagine this: Solis snake was just told he is needs to die in 3 months, he is shocked and there can't say a thing. you see a close up on his face and you wait for the dramatic music to start, and then... *click click click* stupid hard drive ruins the mood.

i'm sick and tired if the annoying clicking sound my ps3's hard drive makes when loading or installing. it really hurts the mood of gaming, like in a cut-scene with a dramatic pause, all of the sudden the hdd goes *click click click*. i know that solid state drives are dead silent, but they're also way too expensive. what are some really quiet hard drives that?are there silent or nearly silent hard drives that you can recommend? a capacity of more than 80gb would be great, since i don't want to compromise space. thanks for your help.
