@misstrist: he did say that but sounds like you are hearing it backwards....

he was basically saying if your are buying and xbox buy the s if you dont have 4k tv. (not sure how else he could have put it)

slim still has advantages over original skew, hdr, blue ray, smaller, white, new controller, 2tb but wont take advantage of 4k tv.

you can choose to buy a slim as an xbox one owner, my friend is giving his away to his brother for graduation and buying himself a slim because he has an hdr tv....and he likes new stuff...most people including myself wouldnt switch to the slim.

the slim isnt being touted as an upgrade, its a differnt skew, different size, no external drive, bigger hdd, different controller, different color. it does come with hdr which is a nice add on....why not.....

@catsimboy: uhm actually more people care about hdr and will see benefits of it sooner than 4k. especially for non-gamers.

but there are way more gamers on 1080p tvs than anything so adding HDR is as G-Coleone put..."super cool"

Step aside, 4K: The next big thing in TV technology is HDR

Thus far, the much-ballyhooed transition to 4K TV has been a slow one that doesn't see a lot of signs of picking up sudden steam. Even though HDR is in its relative infancy, it appears poised to be the successor to 1080p HDTV due to its more obvious increases in picture quality than 4K.

@Ravenlore_basic: this is puzzling. but i can see why for multiplayer....maybe they limit the fidelity of the xbox one to get to 60fps even with scorpio.....so games would look marginally worse then they could if not for cross play....just guessing. single player i wouldnt see the need for same frame rates.....terrible idea if they limit scorpio to xbox one frame rates.

@Random_Matt: but upscaled 2k or 3k is way better than upscaled 1080p......id say 3k upscaled to 4k 99% as good as native 4k........you would literally have to be at 1 foot on a 75" screen to tell the diff...........if that far...you might need a microscope or telescope

i guess i dont understand why microsoft would limit the benefit in marketing to 4k tvs.........doesnt make sense....they can render at 4k and downsample to 1080p and it will look way better than xbox one.....DSR.....have they never heard of it.....very weird, its not like they are selling tvs.....like sony. i could not get nvidia dsr tech to work on my tv, but i was after much research able to create a custom resolution that basically does the same thing.....renders at 1440p then outputs 1080p. then my tv upscales to 4k. gives me 60fps at 1440p on my 4k tv........if i had gotten that to worked earlier i would not have upgraded from 980gtx to 980ti. as i still needed to figure out how to downsample. basically nvidia is half ass supporting dsr. if you have a 1080p tv then it works, otherwise its limited. in any case dsr is real. it looks great. and you can use your 1080p tv....i dont get why ms would disregard that option....

@jshah500: wow a lot here.

so uhd is samsung 4k tv with hdr....

so if you are not going to game on pc...

then you would likely consider scorpio or slim

to take advantage of slim 4k blue ray then you need 4k tv

to take advantage of scorpio gaming 4k you need 4k tv.

slim and scorpio will take advantage of hdr on your 4k tv if your tv is hdr as games and movies likely to support that soon.

good news if you get a 4k tv with a good upscaler. (sony is the best in my opinion but others are close lg samsung)

your xbox one or slim games will look better on the 4k tv.....there is a noticeable difference with just the upscaling.

just like 1080p movies look fantastic on my sony. in fact i had people over and no one could tell any difference between 4k house of cards and 1080p house of cards.....key is 4k netflix is compressed. i really havent been able to compare true 4k to 1080p other that you tube but i think that is a false test....

so buying a sony 4k tv. all my movies looked better and all my games by lets say 10% to give it a value...tangible but not worth it alone. also any 4k content available online not really worth getting 4k tv for as 1080p uscaled on this sony is 99% as good. really i had amazon prime and netflix 4k i canceled both. the key was gaming at 4k with my computer.......

any 720p content on tv will look worse on your 4k. most sports......unfortunately.

so unless you plan on gaming in 4k i would not get 4k tv..........

@DVONvX:reasons to buy. 1. you dont have 4k tv and dont plan on it.

2. dont plan on jumping on vr soon

3. dont have xbox

4. need another xbox

5. want to take advantage of true 4k blue ray player

6. HDR support.....

7. developers even said it might be a tad faster than original skew and might be able to take advantage of that as well.

8. cant afford $500 box.

9. dont want to wait another year to get into xbox.

10. you can game now and trade in for scorpio once you decide to get a 4k tv which may be years from now.

more reasons to buy this than not.....none of this fits me or maybe you....
