It also just went on sale on PSN. I happened to have $15 store credit from my Star points, so I got it for $27 out of pocket. Not bad at all. I haven’t enjoyed a FF game in a very long time.
I see that this game gets a lot of hate, perhaps because it’s not “FF enough,” but that’s exactly why it interests me. FF has been an absolute cringefest for many entries now. Don’t even get me started with how bad and supremely annoying FFXV is. I’ve played some bad games in my day, but FFXV really drives it home with how, well, dumb and mind numbing it is.
I’m excited to play through a darker story with mature characters and great voice acting for once. At least they had the guts to do something different after 15. I’ll be starting it up tonight.
These games used to be on a 2-year development cycle and had far better content than MW3. I would have expected a 6-month deadline with these results. These guys only had to develop the campaign. Treyarch made the zombies mode and they got help from Infinity Ward and Raven to develop the rest.
Unfortunately no excuse is good enough. There have been far better COD titles with far less resources. Sledgehammer simply doesn’t know how to make good games. Get a different developer. All of their COD games have been received poorly.
So they’ve made unlocking weapon attachments a grind, then provided us with a way to alleviate the grind? Why not just minimize the grind to begin with and stop adding unnecessary bloat to these games. They’re already so bloated, they’re floating into the skies.
That aside, MW3 has completely derailed the development flow of these games. With Treyarch delivering Zombies in MW3 and taking away from the development of their own game, and the same with Raven and Infinity Ward (MW3 was primarily developed by Sledgehammer). I foresee the next 3 COD games (at least) being complete rubbish until they start a new phase.
The only notable positives being “evoked nostalgia,” punchy shooting and Verdansk coming back to Warzone? If you couldn’t find anything else more worthy of listing as your bullet points, then… I’m not surprised one bit.
@hardwenzen: I agree with all of that. Killzone 2 is a great example. Bulky and heavy. Bunny hopping is neutralized, tactics are a must and the pace is perfect. Bad Company 2 also has a similar feel. I could definitely get behind that.
@hardwenzen: I wasn’t implying that you did; rather that nearly every shooter these days is that way and long running franchises almost always follow the trends. Gears was already becoming too fast and glittery for its own good. The devs say that they don’t take Gears too seriously (clearly), but I think it’s time that they should, much like God of War did.
