@mogan: very well put. I don’t care about “woke” content. I care about good writing and good characters. The rest doesn’t matter if it’s done well and in a mature way. I could play Veilguard on mute and genuinely benefit from doing so. It would, sincerely, increase the score a little bit.
Tons of past games (in general, not just dragon age) have done woke content very well and organically. These days, it’s become a checkbox. A statement. A cringe factory and they rarely ever do it justice anymore.
Of course it is. Everyone should have expected that much, with everything that has happened.
This is a nearly mythical case for me. I don’t pre-order and I wait months or even years to buy a game, but I feel a little bit for these devs and I think STALKER needs to exist and to succeed.
There’s no doubt that this game is a labor of love and patience. It’s also entirely handcrafted. I pre-ordered a few days ago, because I wanted to support it, despite any launch issues. I can wait for patches or I’ll play it now and play it again in a year.
It probably needs another year and that’s a shame, but I’m confident that they’ll support this game well. They always do. Nevertheless, I’m just happy that STALKER is back.
This is the most inaccurate, unaware, detached and full of bullsh*t article I’ve ever read on here. The one and only thing that Veilguard has in common with BioWare’s or Dragon Age’s roots is the fact that the maps are linear. Everything else, especially the storytelling and characters, is god awful and nowhere near the quality or talent of old BioWare.
The dialogue options are pointless and only contain HR level “good” options. There’s no blood or gore except for a bit of blood in cutscenes. There aren’t any hard choices to make. The game has been completely neutered and sanitized.
The characters are constantly trying (and failing) to be funny and quirky; they’re incapable of taking any dire situations seriously. They talk like current day 13 year old kids, sometimes they even sound exactly like my 9 year old, which should never be the case for adults in a game set in a fantasy medieval era. The combat and graphics are the only things going for it.
Return to the glory days, my ass. This entire article is appalling. The sheer amount of irony here is almost mythical.
I couldn’t care less about BioWare or any bad games that release, but this article is truly something to behold.
@just_visiting: to each their own, but I disagree. RDR2 has a ton of down time and “realistic” micro-management features that make it extremely boring and slows the game down to a crawl. There’s also a lot more to do than just the main story. Plenty of side quests, treasure hunts, challenges, Sasquatch etc. I also like a lot of the characters better.
That said, RDR 2 obviously does the open world a lot better, has a lot more detail in all aspects and still looks incredible. They’re both great and I still enjoy playing them both.
@doublem-k: I think it’s time to take the loss, man. Nobody is being a fanboy here. Rockstar doesn’t like to do remasters. They like to make new games, so it’s a given that they’d hand off remasters to somebody else.
As for Rockstar being lazy; They make the most detailed, interactive, immersive and expansive games ever created and it’s not even remotely close. All of their new games receive mass praise. Who cares about remasters. They’re the furthest thing from lazy and they put all of their time, money, energy and effort into new games, regardless of how long it takes them. They put more work into their games than anyone else. I agree with mwewerka, you sound ridiculous and you have zero understanding of how they do things or why.
@agent_stroud: Strange; I didn’t say a single word about anything being “woke,” yet here you are frothing at the mouth at the chance to play the “anti woke” card and twist reality. Hmm.
@agent_stroud: I never wished the game ill, simply gave an opinion (the writing is terrible), so take your victim’s mentality elsewhere. I owe you nothing.
@WarGreymon77: these days, you can never assume a franchise is “done.” I’m sure it will be back in some form, some day. They’re moving on to Mass Effect 5 for now, though.
@mogan: again, sure. Every RPG has some of those. Some are interesting or funny, some aren’t. Some games have more than others, but Inquisition has too many to count.
