What do you think or know is healthier for your hands when it comes to gaming, keyboard/ mouse or gamepad? I am not asking which is more accurate I simply want to know, to prevent future injuries, which way of gaming is less stressful on your hands/ wrists?

As a follow up, is something like the Move or Wii remote/ nunchuck better for your hands than regualr gamepads? Thanks for any input. Any advice or links would be appreciated.

Hello,

By accident I installed Fallout New Vegas on my 7200rpm Western Digital Caviar Back hard drive (which is an excllent drive in general). How I noticed in Fallout New Vegas there are many pop ups in the background environment, especially in large areas (most of the game). I was wondering if I installed Fallout NV on my 80GB Intel X25-M - Solid State Drive, in addition to speeding up load times, would the pop ups be reduced or is this how the game is? I don't remeber Fallout 3 on pc, on a different 7200rpm drive of mine having as many pop ups.

Overall my game runs perfectly smoothly , i have a quad core i5 processor, 8gb ram, gtx 480 and all updated drivers on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Any help would be appreciated.

Let me start by saying I own a PS3 and gaming PC and use them both. I also own a 360 however I have not used it in a few years (nothing interests it for me) and I am waiting for Fable 3 on pc in march. My overall view of the whole moronic Console is better than pc or pc is better than console debate, is a very simple opinion.

Console gaming is great for the excellent exclusives and PC gaming is great in regards to better graphics, faster loading times, and tons of other things. All the people who say "i like to use a gamepad, i don't like configuring things, new graphics cards come out every few weeks, i like to game in my living room, etc....", please just stop. This all tired old crap that basically means nothing. I will elaborate below.

In another forum someone had said the following in regards to why they think conosle gaming is better than pc.

consoles. simplified controls, shorter startup period, less energy use, less likely to run into lag, lasts for 5 years before phased out, dont kick myself if something new comes out/item i got drops in price, no need to build a new system every 2 years to have the tech to run newest software, more games i want to play, overall price.

my biggest reasons are prices and lag. my uncle has a top of the line pc - built it this year from his tax return. this thing is massive and cost him a few grand. to spend over $300 on a gaming machine is insane to me; a few thousand on one is ridiculous. he just got black ops and i played it tonight. every time it starts up, theres lag. even on gta4, i run into lag. the **** looks great, no doubt, but for a new game to lag for over 30 seconds on pretty much a brand new pc with high end guts just doesnt fly with me. sure, my ps3 dips in framerate every now and then, but not every time i start up a game.

i sent them a message saying they were wrong, they wrote back, and my responses are below. the users text is in bold font. if i am wrong about anything please let me know. i agree a gaming computer costs more than a console but it is usually other completely moronic reasons that i hear/ read from people I know and from what I see online.

wow, really? my post is that important to u? im flattered. i forgot i even wrote that.

u can say im uneducated. u can say im wrong. but its a **** opinion. its my personal take on a piece of technology. BFD. and, as uvce followed me from an obscure post i had forgotten about and challenged me into defending myself further, get ready to defend ur words. uve insulted me over my taste in hardware (which is pretty damn petty, buddy), so i hope u understood when emailing me that i wasnt going to just roll over when all u said is im wrong and called me a moron. to start with, i find it pretty moronic myself that ud email me informing me of my incompetence without even giving proper reason as to why u think so. thats the first sign of a bias opinion.

-I never insulted your hardware tastes and never called you a moron.

1. programming does bear significant weight on building a computer. without knowing the optimal specs a piece of software requires to run properly, ull end up not being able to use it. i mean, even operating systems have minimum reqs. without meeting those, ure not even going to be able to use the computer, let alone run software that will, undoubtedly require even more advances specs.

- Reading the back of a box or online about the system specifications of software or hardware should easily let you know, easily, if it is compatible with what you want to use it for. You do not need a Programming degree to do these things.

have u ever overclocked a processor? **** like that takes knowledge of programming computers! thats.. i dont know what to say if u think building a computer doesnt require programming!! that is just **** ridiculous!

- Overclocking is not required to build a computer, it is optional. I read a one page article in a magazine that explained how to overclock a processor and luckily that magazine also had a half page article on how to overclock my processor. It took me about an hour and worked perfectly with no problems and I don't know **** about programming. You can easily find overclocking guides online for your processor if you look through forums. I know how to work with certain codes for web design related things; however last I checked that has nothing to with computer programming.

2. so im wrong in saying the controls on a console are simplified? the ps3 controller has 14 buttons and two analog sticks. the pc has a full keyboard and a mouse. gaming consoles are specifically made to be easier to use - they are mass market items, they have to be easy in order to succeed.

the reason u see grandmas playing the wii is on that fact alone. they definitely arent sitting down in front of a keyboard and memorizing a slew of commands. pcs are designed for tech-savy consumers. people who know what theyre doing. ask your grandmother to run IE and find youtube. then, ask her to play wii bowling. ask her to run the command prompt and configure her ip address. that should be easy enough. then, ask her to enter in a friend code on the wii. lemme know which she finds easier.

-For the past few years, big name multiplatform titles have xbox 360 controller functionality built right into the game on the pc versions. You literally can configure the controller like a console game in the menu on the pc version. Some of these games include Bioshock, Dead Space, Mafia 2, Resident Evil 5, Batman Arkham Asylum, Borderlands, Dirt 2, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Metro 2033, Braid, Trine, Prototype and many more.
Crysis Warhead and Crysis are examples of pc games that have 360 controller functionality.
Games like World of Warcraft other MMOS and other strategy games do make use of the a large amount of the keyboard and mouse however that is barely all that the pc gaming world offers as I just mentioned above.

For games that do not use the xbox 360 on pc you can use a program called Xpadder or Pinnacle Game Profiler, which are both around $15 each. In those programs you can EASILY set up games that don't use gamepads to use any controller including the PS3 controller or 360 controller, and many others. For example the game FEAR did not use controllers and I configured the PS3 controller to work with the game on my pc and it worked perfectly and it only took about 10 minutes.
There is even a free program called Dolphin Emulator that allows you to play most WII games with wii remote and nunchuck, in HD graphics on your pc. It literally makes Wii games look as if you are playing them with ps3 graphics capabilities.

2. pcs dont take longer to start up? really? my ps3 takes about a minute - give or take a couple of seconds. my pc at least triples that. but i guess im too damn stupid to comprehend time. its a wonder im even typing this then.
-some pcs take long to start and some don't. my desktop has a 80GB SSD (Solid State Drive) that has Windows 7 installed on it. It only takes about 40-45 seconds to start up. For any pc there things you can do to help your computer start up quicker you just need a little bit of research. For example disabling some of start up programs that you don't use can help greatly.

4. components for pcs dont improve in a more rapid rate than consoles? REALLY?! i can buy a video card and 3 months from then, its already dropped in price and newer models are out. thats not bull**** - thats the truth and anyone who has ever built their own computer knows it.
i built my last pc 3 years ago. right now, i cant run anything that was released in the last year. i dont know how i can be wrong there.

-Just because a newer version of your video card comes out 3 months later by no means signifies that you need a new video card. My laptop has a 8800m GTS video card , which is a 3 year old video card. Yet still my laptop runs games significantly better than the consoles. For example, Batman Arkham Asylum on my laptop looks and runs significantly better than the ps3 version. Also Borderlands on my laptop looks and runs significantly better on my laptop than on Xbox 360. There are many more examples that I could list, I also tested what I said personally.
If you buy a good enough video card you should be good/ have better performance than the consoles for at least 5 years. Also, video card drivers from the card manufacturer's website can significantly improve the performance. They usually have new ones a few times a year. You should be upgrading all of your drivers once in a while, whether you game on pc or not.

5. and how can i be wrong in saying i run into lag? do i not know what lag is? am i too stupid to know when the pictures in front of me arent moving at the intended speeds?

Many things can affect lag. It could have been the particular games you were playing. I never played too much pc gaming online so I can't personally comment on this. I pretty much only used Borderlannds online on pc and 360 and I noticed more lag on the 360. Maybe you should upgrade your Ethernet driver. A program called Driver Max will help you figure out which one of your drivers needs to be updated.

i prefer a console, something i dont have to **** with and its simply easier to use, cheaper, and doesnt need upgrades/repairs every few years.

Let's see. 1. Connect PC to tv through HDMI or to monitor with hdmi, dvi, etc…. 2. Turn PC on. 3. Click the game you want to play. 4. Sit down on your couch or chair with your wired or wireless controller. 5) Then play your game. Sounds about the same as what you would do on a console. Yes you cannot do this with every game, however you can with almost all the multiplatform games. Like I said if you start with good enough components you will not need to upgrade your pc for around 5 years. If you build a computer for around $1,500 you should be fine for 5 years or more. I have owned an older Gateway, Apple PowerMac G4, Gateway FX laptop, Dell Precision T3400 Desktop, Ibuypower desktop, Origin Genesis Desktop have used all those computers extensively and none of them ever needed any repairs at all. They all still work perfectly and like the Apple PowerMac are over 5 years old. Maybe I just got lucky. Most computer parts come with a good warranty and for a little extra you can extend your computer warranty through the computer manufacturer for 3 years or 5 years for extra money if you want to. (probably $100 or more). I have had 4 xbox 360s freeze up on me , no red ring of death the video would just freeze. From reading online apparently many 360s have broken down. Personally I have had more luck with computers outlasting my consoles.
i dont see how those points are even arguable. can u make a pc for $150 that runs the latest software?
Obviously a good pc costs much more than a console or $150. However you have to figure games brand new pc games are usually anywhere from $40-$50 new. New 360 and ps3 games are usually $60. Therefore you save money in the games in the long run. Through services like Steam they often have excellent sales where, for example new or newer game like Mafia 2 is only $12.49 and Left 4 Dead 2 at $6.80 and GTA4 and all DLC is only $9.99, these are the prices as I am typing this to you now. Also a few days ago Fallout New Vegas was $33. You will never find deals like that on a console game - unless you wait a very long time. Also you probably need or already have a PC so buying one that is gaming capable or converting your current pc to be gaming capable should not cost much more than buying a "regular" pc

can u make one that runs on a 20 button or less input that is as easy to use as a keyboard/mouse setup?
Like I mentioned before the multiplatform games are the best games on pc that make use of the 360 controller or ps3 controller if you want. On the 360 or ps3 controller if you count the center button and the clicking in capabilities of the joysticks there are 17 buttons, that is a lot of room to play. I don't play games like world of Warcraft and other MMOS or strategy games that require the use of many keys on keyboard, so I personally don't care about using those games with controllers.
can u ensure to me that the system will be top of the line for 5 years, at least?
Obviously I cannot ensure you that it will be top of the line for 5 years or 5 months. However if you buy good parts or a good pc in general to begin with than in 5 years it will still be better than the current selection of gaming consoles. Unless, of course completely new more powerful gaming consoles are released, which does not happen too often.

what ive said arent opinions here – they are facts. components for pcs are improved upon constantly. consoles are, overall, easier to use.

--Now I have shown you the different way of looking at things based on what you said. I apologize for calling you uneducated without giving you facts. It is just that the excuses of PC gaming isn't easy, I have to spend $3000 plus for a good gaming rig, I like to use a controller, I don't want to upgrade arts every few years, etc….. are such tired old anti pc bull**** that for the most part mean nothing anymore.

so please, i implore u to 'educate' me on how im wrong. show me the errors of my ways cause seriously, im pretty damn certain of these things. show me facts that what i say is complete bull****. please, tell me where i can buy a $150 pc thats up to date. tell me how theyre easier to use (which is impossible, what with all the PROGRAMMING skills needed to operate it with any sort of competence). up to this point, u, nor anyone else who replied to my post, has given me anything substantial as to why im wrong; uve all just said i am. just a big crowd of people with their fingers in their ears screaming 'NUH-UH!' at me like my little sister use to do when she was 8.

just because someone disagrees with you doesnt mean theyre wrong. for ****s sake dude, its a form of media! why are we even having this conversation? if i knew id get this much **** from people (ure not the only person to PM about my post. fyi), i wouldnt have even said anything! now im getting called a retard and people are questioning my intelligence? get a grip man! im sick of internet fanboys going for my neck anytime i say something that can be misconstrued into an insult! i wasnt insulting u or anyone in that thread, in case u were wondering! i was just saying 'i like consoles more than pcs!' im not saying pcs arent great gaming machines even! i like my pc! im using it right now!!! my all time favorite game was only for computers! ure killing me man!

Does anyone know if there is difference in sound quality verse 3 pole or 4 pole earbuds? does it mean anything significant?

For example the Razer Moray Pluys earbuds have a 4 pole connector and I think they are excellent. (I use them with my Astro Mixamp for simulated surround sound which works great!)

There are also Sennheiser PC300 G4ME earbuds that based on the following review are much better quality than the Razer Morays, however they have a 3 pole connector and are more expensive than the Razer Moray Plus.

If anyone owns the Sennheiser PC300 G4ME earbuds please let me know what you think of them in general
