To be fair if we read the samurai panda threads when they existed, we all knew what we were getting into, as sakurai said the game would be slower.
That said, some people say that a more watered down expierience is more fun since anyone can pick it up and play now.
See though, people have a different definition of fun, some people think of fun as jus chillin with friends and havin a laugh as they play. Other people are in it to win it, to be the best at their craft, and want to play competitively.
I still do not understand why people think advance techs= you stomp people who don't know them. Someone who has good mindgames can beat someone who knew advance techs. Its the people that learn how to do both that become pro like. Look at Aniki (yes melee but w.e), Aniki used the untourney-viable link in Japan, but he knew his character so well, that he became one of the elite in Japan.
The so called balancing still resulted in tourney viable and non tourney viable characters by the way. Link has no true combos, Captain Falcons knee has been uber nerfed and no L Cancel=no shffl. GDorf and bowser can't be fast anymore. On the otherside. SNAAAKE pit and rob and camp camp camp, Toonlink is wtf? Fox and wolf can still shinespike :O.
That said, I do not think Brawl was overrated. I think they were targeting a different audience this time around. Dumbing down the metagame and trying to make character balance so the gap between a beginner and a regular is small enough so the regular can't 3 stock him? Sounds like a casual approach.
I think one of the problems with brawl was so many people were expecting brawl would have the advanced techs that made the metagame so high, and when they saw they weren't there, people labeled it as bad. Brawl is a good game in its own way, but if I want a competitive expierience ive gotta go to melee.
