@bfeinberg: Actually these basic three human characteristics have existed since the beginning of civilization, even in Romance of the three Kingdoms thousands of years ago you had, Cao Cao (aka Trump) vs Liu Bei (aka Obama) fighting for control over the empires.

One guy didn't give a shit what he did or how he was perceived as long as he won, the other guy wanted to be known as a hero and righteous man, and it hindered all his actions.

One thing that you mentioned really surprised me, though.

You said that you were afraid of viruses and ransomware. Honestly that wasn't the answer I was expecting from you. I was expecting that you didn't want the game developers to starve to death, something I couldn't care less about personally as long as I get my lap dance. wink

@pongley: Likewise. Never once. Hack groups that release scene rips, have a rep to keep, and part of that rep is not infecting the scene with viruses.

Like anything, you need to know which is a good source and which is a scam. Proper scene releases are never virus-ridden.

@bfeinberg: Then you are lying to yourself simple as that.

There is no middle-ground for moral high-ground you are either a genuine altruist or you are not. If you need to create a middle-ground then most likely you belong in category two and are not genuinely altruistic.

Most people in category two believe in a middle-ground, because that's how they are able to justify to themselves that they belong in category one, when in fact they don't.

Knowing that there is no middle-ground on moral high grounds places most people in category 2, which is more or less the truth.

Like I said, I've only ever met a small handful of category 1 people in my life. Most believe in a middle-ground because they cannot live up to the standard that they set themselves up for, and hence need a fallback when they fail to be as righteous as they would like to be. Easiest answer to that is life is complicated, and I had to do what I had to do, but I'm still righteous, no, you are not.

Get it. wink.

@bfeinberg: You experience free games so you can go get more lap dances. If fear of malware and ransomware is the reason you don't pirate, then its not the right reason.

The only reason not to pirate is to pay the game developers so they can feed their family. That's it.

@bfeinberg: I'm already older, I'm not gonna change.

And things are black and white when it comes those three personality traits. There is no middle-ground when it comes to altruism and false altruism, and zero altruism.

All human beings are fundamentally divided into those three category, Jesus Christ (Altruist), Barrack Obama (False Altruist) and Donald Trump (Self Centered).

These basic human traits do not change over time, you may once or twice in your life make a decision that contradicts your base nature, IE become altruistic for a split second, or become false for split second or be self centered for a split second, but your base character never changes.

Altruists have a moral compass that guides all decision making and they cannot go against that moral compass and they value others beyond themselves. They see themselves as good people and are good.

False altruists have a moral compass but can sway against that moral compass at will for self gain, and are great at manipulating others especially through the false pretense of altruism, these are very dangerous people, because they can be deceptive even to themselves, as they see themselves as something that they are not.

Self Centered people have no moral compass, they don't see themselves as being righteous and usually have a very high regard for true righteousness as it is something that they cannot grasp but admire. They hate false righteousness above all things, and they act in accordance to the instinct that benefits them the most in all circumstances.

There is really no middle-ground unless you are lying to yourself.

@bfeinberg: I hope you are not lying, cause there's nothing worse than a self righteous hypocrite.

As for me, I have no moral compass, sadly that's the way I was made. I'll take whatever I can get for free, and I can live with myself just fine.

Three types of people in this world, Altruistic, False Altruistic, and Self Centered. I'm the third type. Most people belong in the second type where they will do despicable things but then lie about it and pretend to be who they perceive themselves to be rather than who they are, few people like me have no qualms with being despicable and do not see ourselves as righteous at all, and then the super rare, are the genuine altruistic people who will never steal, never cheat, and always do the right thing. I've met very few genuine altruists in my life.

I don't know what category you belong in, only you know. So, maybe you are better than the rest of us...that's a big maybe.

@pongley: Exactly what I'm saying. There are tons of PC game stores online that offer discounted prices outside of Steam. If you are buying on Steam you are getting ripped off. Most AAA games on PC cost less than console when you buy online through third party vendors, so why would you continue to get it on console when consoles start to split the user experience with performance tiers?

@bfeinberg: You asked a question I gave you an answer. Facts are facts, losers or winners, people like to save money. Its basic human nature.

You telling me that between free and paid, you will choose paid everytime? Glad you're Jesus Christ, but most people aren't Jesus.

Bottom line, when you remove the single biggest reason for owning consoles, you push people towards the cheaper alternative.

@bfeinberg: I pay for my game on PS4, thank you very much. But the ONLY reason I pay is for a unified gaming experience, I pay cause the developers are forced to squeeze the code to perfection so the game runs at its best. I.E Witcher 3 on PS4.

If I can't get an unified experience, then thanks but I can use piratebay instead and roll the dice on my gaming experience on my PC.
