Hilarious how no one clapped at a lot of the games, especially the VR ones. So some guy yawning in the crowd. Tons of excitement for all the games and add-ons we already knew about. Very little interest in the rest. No major show stoppers or WTF moments. At least there wasn't an appalling and entire show low dance routine. As far "games" go, Sony did good but nothing surprising. They couldn't even be bothered to show release dates or have anything significant release this year still. As far as overall excitement factor and substance, Microsoft hit the mark in a big way. Looks like I'll be pre ordering that Scorpio x thingy-mc-bob.
Two ways to look at it, Sony is simply uncooperative or Sony doesn't need to respond to Microsoft since PlayStation has been around longer and all Microsoft seems to do is copy Sony's every move. It's likely to be spiteful due to the latter.
$100 extra for better performance (XoX) is better than a $100 extra for a piece of crap kinect and low resolution 720p graphics (XO Launch). People still spent the money not realizing what they're doing.
If XoX gives me closer to native 4K resolutions with HDR and possibly even 60fps as opposed to the PS4 Pro upscaling from 1440p and still only at 30fps I'll gladly spend the extra $100. I love PC gaming and I love the PS4 Pro but come on, the XoX is not the same and should not be compared. It's not just the TFLOPS, it's the architecture and how the data gets handled through the hardware. The Pro was the result of pushing the existing AMD hardware to it's limit while the "Scorpio" architecture is more like a redesign of the AMD chip to make it and DX12 actually perform as planned. Xbox games could see benefits far greater than the Pro just because the data is getting handled more efficiently and cooler with less throttling from heat.
With leaks being so rampant everywhere, I can't see how Sony can possibly announce anything major, like a new console, without someone spilling the beans already. The best they'll have is some sort of integration with some service like the EA Access demos's and new title release dates we already knew were coming. I just wish Sony would enforce the Pro Enhancements on all new games because that all just fell apart. I was expecting all new games to be 4K enhanced with HDR and so far... bleck. Makes me think XoX will more than pick up the slack in that regard.
Sea of Thieves looks ambitious and I'm sure it will have it's own small yet dedicated player base. It really needed to be a next gen photo realistic adventure piece to showcase modern console hardware. I might have found interest in it if it were not for the cartoony kids look. It's as if they are trying to attract Nintendo gamers or attempted a VR version but never followed through.
