i got the same problem...i live in LA so i get pretty angry all the time..lol i even cussed out the indian guy on the phone.

this is the real email that i sent to them

I wanted to thank you for ruining my christmas, my mom bought the xbox 360 about 4 months ago so that she wouldn't have the problem of trying to find one near christmas shopping havoc. She didn't buy the warranty because i take really good care of my systems. Then christmas rolls along and i get my xbox 360 and about 5 hours in, the screen starts to mess up. I turn off the system and turn it back on and bam! i get an error message. The E 74 message with my xbox 360 having a red blinking light on the bottom right. I tried everything, i finally called and I...ME! HAVE TO PAY 90 DOLLARS BECAUSE OF SOMETHING THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ME. That is not right microsoft, you shouldnt make me pay for something THAT YOU DIDNT FIX...its not my fault. That being said, i really hope you have the heart to do something about this situation because i really want to be a fan of your systems.

What???? If ur mom got the 360 4 months ago, u r still under the one-year warranty that comes with every console when u buy it. This warranty covers ALL possible breakdowns. So, they MUST fix it for free, 1 red ring or not!!! Call them back and make sure u get urs fixed. Again, it doesnt matter if u purchased the warranty from the shop u bought it or not, the 360 comes with 1year warranty not matter what!!!!!!!!

ps: please get back to me to tell me what happened, im really curious to find out

Just leave the console on and let it overheat until you get the 3 red lights.mjk_1

That. If it doesnt work, do the towel trick (wrap the "lovely" 360 with a towel, switch on and let it FRY!! 30 -40 mins should do the trick.) Please note that the above might even fix ur problem. The fix is only temporary! Do the trick again, as many times as needed.

Happy Cookin!!:D

man, i feel u.... Mine RRoDed the day i got NBA 2K8. Had to wait 4 weeks to get it fixed. In the mean time and because i REALLY wanted to play, i got a rental (which cost me around 100 euros!!!!). Messed up timing. Cant do much really.... u'll just have to endure the whole thing.

PS: Dont go out and buy a new console, bro. U already gave your money (and your trust as a consumer) to MS when u bought your box. Buyin a new one is like awarding them for their indifference in the matter of the RRoD effect.

Best of luck man

Im supporting u 100%. I think that MS is currently rippin us loyal fans off, at the moment. I hope they change their attitude soon, or we change our.... Just because we like 360s' games doesnt mean we must suffer MS indifference. I can afford not to play Halo3 or even Ninja Gaiden 2. What i cant tolerate is to have MS take me for an idiot!

No, there is no way. The RRoD is the result of poor manufacturing which causes the motherboads' chips to overheat and melt. Supposently, Microsoft tried to fix the problem with the new Falcon motherboards. Xboxs' that are manufactured since last December r eqquiped with these (Elites deffinitely have them), but people are reporting that they still get the RRoD. The only thing u can do is make sure the console gets the best air flow possible. To do so, u have to place the xbox on a couple of books so that all ventilation shafts are accesible. If u can take a look at an xbox, u'll know what im talking about.

If u do get the RRoD, u'll have to send it to a Microsoft repair center and wait for it to get fixed (free of charge, of course). U either get ours' fixed or u get a new one, but they wont replace it without taking it back and having it examined. The whole proccess takes about 3 to 4 weeks.

Because the problem is very common (reports r suggesting a 1-to-3 ratio), MS has extended the warranty on RRoD issues to 3 years.

I have mine since July 07, and have gotten the RRoD on November. Send it in and got it back 3 week later. I received my original console repaired, which for me is a good thing - if i got a new one, i guess it would be one with the problematic motherboard, so it would be a matter of time for it to beak down again.

As an xbox user, I cant say i' m happy with all these, but i would still support it because it has a better games library than ps3 (for now and the near future at least). My advise is, research the games library and the ones that r to come and see if the exclusives are up to ur taste, dont worry about common titles, they look and play excacly the same.

not always, sometimes those excellent graphics make the game short and therefore not as complete as gamers would want them. elvisisgod

Or very repetitive, the case of Assassins Creed. However, i think this senario was to be expected: New Gen consoles were hyped and advertised as prossessing and graphical powerhouses, so i guess producers were expected to prove these claims. They did. Now that excellent visuals r to be expected, the consumers' interest is again substance. I think the future will bring us games that r visually excellent, plus have more substance

I totally feel u man. RRoD is the single biggest ripoff Microsoft has come up with. They know the problem and wont fix it cause its too costly. And they leave us dumb-asses moan and cry and hope that they'll come up with an anwser, WHILE WE STAY LOYAL TO 360. WHERE IS MS' LOYALTY TO THEIR CUSTOMERS??

I have been an xbox fan since the original and still am, but i cant tolerate a company, no matter how big it is, to take me for a fool. If mine breaks again, im getting a PS3. Thats the only power the consumer has in cases like this, make them pay for their indifference, that the only language MS understands!!

[QUOTE="Colemenkiller"][QUOTE="eterpay"]i did not add this in the origanal post cause most dont think it is a problem, but as games get better graphics they get shorter. i mean halo 3 was barely 8 hours on legendary! call of duty 3 was about the same, i mean they can make games 20 hours and 1999 graphics, thier are much shorter games then this. i hate spending 60 dollars on that. now most people probably want great graphics so this is not a big concerneterpay

Good point you have mass effect Great game and pretty long but graphics compared to other games are not as good as they seem

i like mass effect. the graphics are only good in cutscenes. it sacrafices multiplayer for game length. and i only finished the main quest

Totally agree on the lenght issue. Games r way too short these days. I think MP is overratted and it should be a factor for all games. Shooters need it, but action adventures or rpg's...... I cant see how it would work to have games like devil may cry or Mass Effect with multiplayer. Also, u r sayin mass effect doesnt have good graphics.. compared to what? CoD4? Whan u compare games, u should always compare ones of the same gerne. So, as far as rpg's go, mass effect is excellent graphics-wise
