I'm in need of a new graphics card but I'm debating whether I should get two low end cards and put them in sli or just get one better card. I'd probably be looking at two Nvidia 8600gts 256mb or one 8800gts 640mb. Both of these setups would cost about the same price for the cards. I'm not really interested about that fact that if I get one 8800 now I'll being able to upgrade to two later or the different power needs of both. I'm mainly looking at which setup would give me better performance. The SLI 8600 would be cool just cuz it's SLI but it would only have a total of 512mb memory vs the 640mb of a single 8800, but would the dual computing power of two 8600gts' be better than a single 8800gts?

Thanks

Thanks for all the imput everyone. I just finished watching some normal tv and the burn in doesn't look as bad as before. Maybe it'll comeback even more or it might just be imagining it looks better. I'll have to look into Panasonic's features a little more to see if I can "reburn" the screen but my brightness is pretty much maxed. The tv has a few preset modes such as vivid, normal, and cinema and you can guess that I was using the vivid. I'll have to tone it down and maybe that'll help.

Well I'm happy to say that I'm a new 360 owner as of this weekend. Just picked one up as well as guitar hero II and it's been a lot of fun. I can't imagine that I played more than 3 hours straight (I guess that is a lot and I did play longer than that after a break later in the day) but that's all it took to burn in the guitar hero score and "rock" meters as well as some of the other background stuff into the screen. I'm mostly mad at myself for not being more careful about the burn in because I knew plasmas can do that but I thought it would have to be a really long time. Almost like marathon gaming sessions. I have a Panasonic TH-50PX75U so it's a newer generation pannel and I though they had technology to prevent burn in now days. I guess mine doesn't have it. The burn in is not visable when you have other imputs being displayed on the tv such as when playing other games or watching tv and movies but you can faintly see it when there's no imput into the tv and it's just the black screen. I'm done playing games on the plasma but it sure was nice to play on the big screen really makes a difference. Well I just wanted to try and warn people before the same thing happens to them. Or has anyone else experienced burn in?

Well than my next question would be whether they're worth waiting for? I guess cooler is better and they'll probably be the same price.

Are these relativley new? If I where to go to the store would I have to make sure I'm getting one with HDMI since some might still have a few regular premium systems around?

My opinion on cables is they either work or they don't. I'd just get the cheap one from amazon. Most electronic stores just wany your money and force the Monster Cables on you. I don't think I would be able to tell a difference between a super high quality cable and a regular one, but then again even if there was I bet it's so slight that I'd rather have the extra money in my pocket.

I remember hearing a rummor that the XBOX 360s are supposed to be getting a new set up chips that run cooler and faster than the current models. Is this true or just a rummor as I said?

Well considering your avatar is a pic of Snake I just want to ask if you have a ps3? I'm a ps3 owver but am also looking at getting a 360. Just saw some great labor day sales. Circuit city has the Pro edition for $350 but you get a free wireless controller and Top Spin (probably not that good anyways) free. Hey free stuff seals the deal for me. I don't really feel that the elite is worth the extra $100 and not getting the free stuff. Well the one question you have to ask yourself is if the 360 is worth getting in the long run. IE: are games comming out for the 360 that you want to be able to play but might not come out for PC, PS3, Wii ect. Halo 3 is my deciding factor and others, but just depends. I also look foward to Bioshock, but that's also a PC game. In my case it would be cheaper to just buy the 360 than upgrade my pc to be able to play Bioshock.

I know you can back up your saved game data to a usb hd/flash drive or other storage media if you have to 60gb model. Then you could attach that file to an email and send it that way. Should work but I haven't tried it myself.

I build my own pc's mainly because of the money issue. I wouldn't really say building your pc is better than buying one because if I could afford a nice pc from Voo Doo, Falcon NW, Alienware, even Dell's XPS I'd buy one. When you get a prebuilt system you just know everything's going to work and the cases and wiring one those systems are top notch. But I've still built the last two computers because I can keep them around $1000 (I reuse hds, cd drives, case and other stuff) and get the same components that would have otherwise cost me a couple hundred more if I bought it prebuilt.
