Just checked the ps3 manual. It says if you get an alternating flashing red and green light it's overheating, but just a flashing red light might be something different. I'd just call Sony and check it out.

The power indicator on the system front is flashing red and green alternately.
  • The interior of the system has become hot. Check whether the system is being
used in a hot location or whether the vents are blocked. Continuing to use the
system in the above condition will cause it to stop functioning. Turn the system off
and leave it unused until it cools down. After the system cools down, turn it on again.
The power indicator on the system front is flashing red and the system does not operate.
  • The temperature inside the system has risen too high. Check whether the system
is being used in a hot location or whether the vents are blocked. Touch the power
button on the system front to stop the flashing, and then leave the system unused
until it cools down. After it cools down, turn on the system again.

when i changed my video output resolution to 1080i (thats the highest my tv can provide), everything in my dashboard shrenked but when i play games or movies its totally fine. does anybody know how to fix this.ABSAT
The dashboard icons shrink because 1080i is a higher resolution. Don't worry it happens to everyone but I don't think you can change the icon size. The effect is similar to changing the resolution on your computer monitor. The higher the resolution the smaller your icons will be in comparison to the screen because there are now more lines of resolution/pixels being shown. This should actually make your games look a little bit better but as far as the icons maybe Sony can make a update in the future so you can change their size.

i was going to buy an hdmi cable but i saw different prices between 14.99 and 99.99. if anybody knows why there is this huge difference in the price, please tell me.ABSAT
Personally I think the expensive cables are a waste of money. I know Monster Cable and ******'s pure av cables say they provide better picture quality but who wants to spend that kind of money on a cable? I got a $10 hdmi cable from newegg.com and it works great. I've also bough some monster cables before to hook my ipod up to a stereo system and I can't tell the difference between them and regular cheap cables. They're supposed to work better and this may be true but you'd have to be a real visual/audiophile to notice.

Need Help PS3 on Computer Monitor
I have the HDMI to DVI cable but it doesn't work on my computer monitor. I've already chaged the video settings to display the picture with the DVI cable and tried all resolutions. 480, 720, and 1080 didn't work but since I have a 19" (4:3) Samsung 940b it should only be able to display the 680x480 resolution anyways. Well my computer monitor just displays a message saying the imput isn't the native resolution of 1280x1024. Is there something I'm doing work or do I need a widescreen computer monitor? Any help would be great since I feel like I just wasted money buying the cable.
