[QUOTE="blitzcloud"]Just visit the link and fill a comment of your thoughts. I personally think that, being "professionals" these kind of mistakes (repeated mistakes, for months) don't have an excuse anymore.Ontain

i've seen it. if it's a mistake it's on sony's end. it's not up to the reviewer to reconfigure a system or tv or sound system. as far as i'm concerned these are out of the box comparisons and are fair.

It's the reviewer's job to display each system at its fullest potential. If they don't know enough to set up their systems, it's hardly Sony's fault. The problem had nothing to do with the sound or TV setup; it was the PS3 setting. The PS3 doesn't default to settings that would make the system look worse on systems that don't support it. That would be stupid. It would also be stupid for the reviewers to use a TV that doesn't support the full graphics potential of the PS3. It's tantamount to comparing the original XBOX to the PS3 with each hooked up with composite cables to an SDTV.

you also shouldn't have to adjust the display settings. the console should come set on the highest quality.krunkfu2

Only newer TVs support Super white and full RGB. They are disabled because they make things look worse on TVs that are not compatible . They are part of the HDMI 1.3 spec for TVs (it's different for computer monitors, most of which support the specs)

I like my PS3. I think the look is great and the presentation as far as the interface goes has improved by leaps and bounds. As powerful as it is, it is a very quiet system and enjoy my blu-ray movies. The only thing it is missing now are games worth my money.RonnieLottinSF

Don't get me wrong, I love my PS3 too. There's just a few irksome aspects to it.

One of my biggest gripes is no IR port for the use of a universal remote. I have more but that one just irks me.

I forgot that one! I hate having to use anything other than my Harmony remote.

Overall I'm happy with my PS3. There's certainly some flaws inherent in the design and concept though that hold it back from being a truly exceptional system. If someone feels the need to throw out a "fakeboy" comment, please first read my earlier post, Why I don't own an XBOX360

USB ports: It's nice that four are provided, but why do they all need to be on the front? The little mutant squid GHIII dongle looks silly hanging off the front of the system. Also, why can't the ports be powered while the system is in standby? I've ended up hooking up a USB hub to the port on my DVR to charge controllers off of, since I don't want to leave my PS3 on all of the time.

Dust: This thing truly is a dust magnet. I'm not terribly concerned about the dust on the shiny surfaces, but vacuuming out the ventilation ports is a PITA. It doesn't help that in the horizontal arrangement I have mine in, it's terribly difficult to access the opening to clean them without twisting/lifting the unit. I think there must be dust that gets out through the card reader ports as well. I always keep the door to the card reader ports closed, by there is invariably a super-fine dust all over that compartment.

Design: Does that top of the system truly need to be rounded? I imagine it helps keep people from stacking anything on top of the system in a rack set up,but the only place for my center channel speaker is on top of the PS3. Whenever I nudge the system, the speaker falls off the back.

Audio: I often had to switch between bitstream and PCM for the optical out port to get surround sound when switching between soundtracks on movies (such as between the Chinese and English tracks of Kung Fu Hustle). This may have been a shortcoming of the receiver. I've since switched to a receiver with HDMI inputs, and that solved the issue.

Video: I have to switch out of the HDMI super white mode when playing PS2 games because they end up looking under contrasty. This makes me think that the upscaling for the PS2 games is taking full advantage of the PS3 video features.

Controller: The only reasonable implementation of the SIXAXIS I've yet seen is in LocoRoco. I think they could have left this gimmick out, ad it probably would have saved Lair...

Linux: Why not allow access to the RSX from within Linux? THere would be some great development on it given the video acceleration (which is probably the reason for not letting Linux use it... Sony wouldn't make any money off of Linux development).

Media Center: Golly, a SEARCH function would be great for finding my way through thousands of songs.

DivX: A 2 GB limit. Really?

Home: I'm tired of waiting. Come out with it already!

FFXIII: This is one of the main reasons I chose a PS3, and now it looks like it won't even hit in 2008.

GHIII: How long will I have to wait to buy another guitar? I had to use a cheat to get the co-op songs unlocked.

And finally....

SYSTEM WARS. I know it's terribly childish, but I hate that it's the most heavily derided system in these silly forums.

What are other PS3 owners' gripes?

[QUOTE="AIH_PSP"][QUOTE="Redgarl"]Crysis fit on a single DVD9 with 6,2 GIG... that alone is telling everything.laughingman42

That's different. PC games are installed so they can be compressed a lot. 360 streams the data and loads straight from the disc, therefore to cut loading times and slow downs you need to have less compression. When you have less compression, the file size is bigger. When the file size is past 8.5GB, then the DVD cannot be used.

I think that you are thinking of what the PS3 has to do because of its slow optical drive.

I don't get the whole "slow drive" myth. The 360 has a 12x DVD drive, with a maximum data transfer rate of 15.9 MB/s. The PS3 has a 2x Blu Ray drive, with a maximum data transfer rate of 13.5 MB/s. That's really not that different.

[QUOTE="mabris"][QUOTE="DarkRecruit"]

My specs: 8800GT oced, X2 6000+ (equivalent to a E6600) and 2gigs of DDR2 800Mhz RAM.

8800GT- $260

X2 6000- $190

Asus M2NBP-VM CSM (mobo)- $90

2gig DDR2 800Mhz RAM- $110

DarkRecruit

$650? That's hardly an entire computer you have listed there. You need to add in the cost of a case, power supply, hard drive, optical drives, keyboard, mouse... I'm guessing your real cost is north of $800.

Read my other post:

PSU- do you not have one? if you don't have a good one, you can get one for pretty cheap

Case- you have one

HDD- you have one

DVD drives- you have one

Network card- uh....every mobo has them built in

Sound card- most mobos have good ones built in

Just because you had them, it doesn't make it free. They had to be purchased at some point, which would have cost money...

Didn't this exact same topic fail when you posted it last week?
