Actually, Sony's stock is rated a "buy" right now. The PS3 is expected to contribute to significant growth in the stock. 

why would that be? if the 80GB HDD is the only different, I see no problem with a new release. Sony isn't forcing you to buy a new PS3 if you want the new HDD....since you can upgrade your current PS3 to that HDD size(or bigger). since we don't know the specifics of the differences in the bluetooth device, it's hard to call that an "enhancement".eclipsed4utoo

If the HDD is the only difference, then yes, that's fine. (I actually have to upgrade mine soon anyway. I have no idea how I've already filled my HD with 40 gigs worth of stuff!!)

But I'm guessing that won't be the only change. Sony has promised to keep the bulk of the core materials the same (Cell, BluRay, networking capabilities, etc...) so hopefully the changes that are proposed will just be limited to the HDD, internal changes to lower manufacturing costs, and whatever that Bluetooth antenna is.

(Rumor had it that the Bluetooth antenna was rearranged in order to eliminate the connection issues that some consumers have reported with their SixAxis controllers) 

It's not anything official. basically they are looking at ways to cut costs so they are laying off workers in Europe. No one knows when the price will drop but i am sure it will happen before September.Deihmos

I fear this price cut paves the way for a $600 80GB unit to slide right in.

The price cut doesn't annoy me.

Having my top of the line unit become the bottom of the line unit in under 6 months does though.

Exactly!! He's under the impression that cheap means inferior. Only an idiot would pay more for the same QUALITY cables as the cheaper ones. Now if the cables were inferior in quality then he might have a point but he's not saying that. His point is that if you can spend $600 on the PS3 then you MUST pay $60 for HDMI. Why pay only $60? Why not go al out and buy the most expensive cables money can buy since you're obvioulsy rolling in it.

I was planning on paying my jeweler a cool $30 mil to encrust my HDMI cable with diamonds. I mean, if you're going to purchase a PS3, why not go all out?

I'll have to move some funds around in Switzerland to finish the diamond encrusting of my HDTV and the PS3 unit itself.

I fear encrusting my controllers with diamons would lead to finger blisters though. Perhaps I'll just gold plate them.

Another very good point.

I personally enjoyed this 1.7 Update but even if it disappointed me, I'd take a couple of disappointing store updates over a company who is so uncertain in their product as to release a newer version just 18 months after launch. I'd take that to be an ominous sign too.

I agree the elite is an example of either Sony's supremacy or MS's greed, and I have stated many times that it will probably in all honesty be a bit of a failure, if not a large one. Still, the Elite only means that the 20GB version will become cheaper.....lol, jk, good point, you got me there.

Now, of course, if the rumors of an enhanced PS3 coming out are true, then I'll jump right into the "Sony...I am not happy AT ALL!" boat with you.

G4TV.com confirmed the 80GB system, though that's probably going to be very, very expensive....

a) Sony needs to confirm it

b) I'm pretty sure Sony would drop the 60GB unit down to $500 and make the 80Gb unit $600
