This looks way too similar to previous GoW games, and considering I was fairly disappointed with the third due to its lack of punch and brief campaign, this game doesn't look anywhere near as bloody (even though the reviewer says so but it's hard to believe after that footage), and nowhere near as innovative. I feel like this series, while still generally fun, really is on its last legs and doesn't offer anymore than just 1 single player playthough, then to sit on the shelf forever.
I have to disagree with this review. While on a TECHNICAL level of graphics, controls, and presentation, this game is absolutely stellar, on a more creative level, like fun, difficulty, etc this game fails. Regular enemies are way too easy while bosses are way too cheap. The camera makes this 10X worse than they need to be and the parrying/blocking system is so difficult to pull off successfully (on purpose, less you like me just tap the L analog a million times in the hope you get lucky), you have to be some kind of jungle cat on steroids in order to have the reflexes required from bosses who throw like 20 strikes in 1 second's time (many off camera); also have standard special attacks that are guaranteed to break your block and parry every time. The story is also incredibly silly and lame, environments are plain, and there just isn't much in terms of overall FUN. While I appreciate the game's attempts and ideas (being a HUGE Metal Gear fan), the freaking thing is just too cheap and repetitive.
A brand new version of the Wii Fit might help, especially with adult buyers... but I'm not sure if anyone will want to spend over $300 for a system just for one game to make them slimmer.
I doubt that. Hardcore adult gamers are the ones with the most money, and they can only take so many kid-geared games on one system. As far as games the system needs more teen and adult-oriented exclusives, like the PS3 for example.
What is killing the Wii U is/was its horrific marketing. The average american casual-gamer consumer looks at the Wii U as just another cheap rehash of the Wii, with nothing too impressive on it, and just seems Nintendo trying to shoe-horn their way into people's wallets. The average hardcore gamer sees it as still too much of a family-friendly system without any killer app games they really need, but just a gimmick touch pad. And BOTH parties are STILL not fully sure about what accessories are needed (do I still need a nunchuk? Could I use a cheaper Wii remote instead? What games work with what controllers? What am I missing out on if I don't already own a Wii? How much do the two models differ? etc). The $350 price for the "better" model doesn't help matters either. Nintendo you should've waited a year and came out with a COMPLETELY NEW system, and NEW NAME!
That would be really cool. Female leads have been better integrated into gaming more than ever before, even with big franchises like the Resident Evil series.
Hopefully this doesn't become a habit. I'm not sure about all of Sony's products, but to be honest I really stick to Samsung and Panasonic when it comes to TV's and stuff. The playstation is the only thing I've been dedicated to with Sony. Unfortunately their handhelds have always been lagging mostly due to their ridiculous price points. It was that way with the PSP, and now with the Vita. with a couple of games and memory cards, with taxes, that's at least a $500 investment. TOO much! I'm really hoping they are reasonable with the PS4 price.
This is a really early review, which is great, because i put it on preorder so I'm happy it got a good score. It is a big disconcerting that this game seems to lack the magic moments of exploration that the early games had. But really, the original game was all about the exploration, once TRII hit, it really started being a lot more action oriented. Maybe we'll soon get a next gen game where they'll go back to the exploration and discovery aspects. Perhaps another T-Rex to fight :P
I agree that this is definitely a big departure from the Tomb Raider we grew up with. I too remember the original back from the PS1 days, and I LOVED the exploration much more than the shooting and violence aspects. The big rooms, epic music, discovery of artifacts and items, it was magic. I put this game on preorder and see how it fares, but it would be nice if it was how it used to be. I can see why they wanted to change it up though.
