because you assumed it would never happen to you. The dvd-drive on my elite went from fine to completely fkd up right when I decided to switch the disk. I'm sure a lot of you have heard of the scratching disks problem and getting a disc unreadable.
The problem with my system is its making all the noises and stuff, often times thinking the disc is unreadable, or thinking my system is a dvd player, not an xbox 360. It has not scratched a disk, at least nothing like what I've seen from the videos. It may be making some faint scratches but I think thats just because the damn thing is half the times spitting out the disk while its still spinning.
I get the problem whenever I start a disc or stop a disk, infact, once I get the disk running at full speed, it works like a charm, I'm thinking about getting a game running and just leaving it on until they send me a box (I heard that is how microsoft does their transaction) to ship my xbox in, If I get 3 rings, I don't care.
Here's a funny email that I got from them after I described my problem, I wish I had told them that it sends the disks out spinning because maybe then they would not realize that my problem isn't a problem and that it is "completely expected"
Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support!
I am very sorry for the inconvenience this might have caused you.I understand that you hear noise coming from your console when you turn it on and especially when it is playing a disc.
The sound of the fan and the disc spinning in the drive creates a "whirring" sound when a disc is inserted into the disc drive. This is completely expected, and nothing to be concerned about. For the Xbox 360, which has an Optical Disc Drive, two system fans and frequently a Hard Disc Drive, the sound level will vary depending on usage scenarios and ambient temperature. The fans change speeds depending on the cooling that is needed. Sounds are also more or less noticeable depending on the ambient noise level. Therefore, the console sounding differently at different times is normal.

Well, yes I agree, that console does make a crap load of sound even when it is normal. Maybe when I was describing my problem, I didn't make it seem that bad.
Now I will show you what I had written them.
It is making grinding noises with all discs that are put into it. The noise follows a similar problem and then goes away after the game starts. Once I turn off the console,go to the dashboard or
open the disc drive, the noise comes back, it sounds much more violent when taking out the disc though the system appears to not cause any damage to the discs. Sometimes error messages will appear such as disc unreadable or put the disc in an xbox 360 console (during which it treats the game as a dvd movie).
This problem first occured yesterday after I took out a game (it made no sound then) and then I put in a dvd (in which it started making the horrible sounds) I almost thought that I put in the disc backwards but I did not.

So to Microsoft: grinding, violent, horrible sounds is equal to " a "whirring" sound. Not only that, but Microsoft completely ignores the fact that it sometimes reads it as unreadable or the other error message. Btw: I sent this to them today and the unreadable and other error messages are now happening about 90% of the time (yesterday it was occuring about 50% or less.
For those of you whose xbox 360 is running perfectly fine, mine was on friday as well. To bad it may fck you over any day and you will never see it coming.
