A couple of things surprise me about this, first the cost is $40, wasn't Cataclysm $30? Second is the date, I didn't think they'd launch until everyone's annual pass had expired, that way they can trick people into dropping another $150 for a year. Finally I'm surprised it's being launched so close to Guild Wars 2, I figured it would be around 3 months after, when people are getting bored and looking for something else to do. I can't see a large exodus of players leaving GW2 after only a month (especially without a fee)
The tragedy is that SWTOR and a couple others have been better games than WOW (post-Cataclysm), but there are 8 million people who don't see that or care. Blizzard knows this, and it's why they've been so lazy with development - pumping out so much recycled content, the slowest patching schedule in the industry and the homogenization of classes/removal of talent trees
Can't say I'm surprised at the little interest in buying. Activision and Blizzard are well passed their prime. I don't think any new owner would see much of a return on their investment now.
Vivendi should have grabbed their parachute right around the time Cataclysm launched, now it's too late to jump
I was in the beta too, but I thought GW2 was a mixed bag. While the combat and graphics are better in GW2, the personal stories and "heart" quests are awfully boring.
TOR's story is actually very good and there was a lot of content until you reached the level cap. This is better than a KOTOR 3 would have been. The issues with the game are with the MMO aspects (or rather lack thereof)
